My story

[p]Thank you for visiting my Virgin Money Giving page. A couple of years ago I ran my first marathon in Liverpool, it was hard going and I hated it in some points but as soon as I crossed the finish line I knew I'd do another one, one day. This was reaffirmed when after visiting my GP, with swollen knees, he told me to slow down and not run as far!! (no thank you Mr GP!)[/p][p]I applied for the London Marathon 2018 in the ballot and received the dreaded rejection email. However my lovely friend Hannah offered me a place to raise money for the charity she works for The Carers' Support Centre. I feel very lucky that Hannah offered me the place and proud to raise money for a fantastic local charity. The Carers' Support Centre may not be something you have heard of but they do invaluable work with often very isolated people. They have been around now for 25 years. The Carers' Support Centre works with unpaid carers in North East Lincolnshire. They provide Information, benefits advice, counselling, advocacy, holistic therapy, training and learning and social groups. Taking time out to talk to others, have a massage or learn a new skill can really help someone who is a carer, as being a carer can often make a person feel isolated and lonely. Within my work as a nurse in the community I have often assisted people to access this service, I have particularly used them for benefits advice, advocacy and counselling. (Applying for much needed benefits can be quite stressful for people, particularly if they struggle with reading and writing). The Carers' Support Centre even have an advice helpline 01472 242277. [/p][p]I hope you will be able to sponsor me, and donate to this charity, and help me in my journey to run the London marathon. I'm trying not to think about how far it is at the mo, and hoping my knees behave![/p][p][br][/p][p]31st January - update. [/p][p]Training going well, I'm up to 9 miles. Did the Northern Championship Cross Country at the weekend as a bit of hill training! Or was tough! [/p][p]Hoping to get to 10 miles this week. But had sone flu like symptoms. Been a bit shivery. But trying to think positive thoughts to send it on its way!! [/p][p]Update - February 25th Harewood House half marathon with Andy, Helen and Dan. A fantastic hilly run, great marathon training. [/p][p]Update - March 6th. A big 16 miles done, in the snow, on Saturday with Helen and Dan. It was fab doing it with friends. Unfortunately I fell on the ice at the end but only sustained some bruising! 6 miles in the bag today! Thanks for reading x[/p][p]Update 20th March. Helen and I ran a freezing 20 miles on Sunday, the second lot of snow from the Beast from the East! We had to do it in Cleethorpes because the race over in East Hull was cancelled. we survived it though! Now is week 12 and another 7 miles done today, and I had some sunshine ?. [/p][p]Thanks for reading! [/p]
