My story

[p]On Sunday 22nd April, I'll be running the London Marathon again for Refuge.[/p][p]I couldn't quite resist having another go (although I must admit I'd forgotten all the cold and rainy January runs when I signed up!). I can't promise I'll be any faster this time, but I do swear I will run my sunset-orange-trainer-clad socks off for this brilliant charity.[/p][p]Refuge is very important to me because, like many other women, I've experienced an abusive relationship. I would never have imagined it could possibly happen to me, but it's very common: one in four women in the UK will experience domestic violence in their lifetime. [/p][p]I can't explain quite how empowering it was to run the marathon for Refuge last year. I felt stronger than I had for years when I crossed that finish line. I hope that by raising my voice (and moving my feet!) in support of Refuge, I can make a small difference to the lives of other women and children overcoming domestic abuse. I'm so grateful that it's no longer my life and I truly couldn't have done it without endless support from my friends and family. They kept me safe while I fell apart and put myself back together again - they still do. There are so many women out there who desperately need Refuge to be that safe space, to give them that support. [/p][p]Refuge is committed to a world where domestic violence and violence against women and girls is not tolerated and where women and children can live in safety. Refuge provides a range of life-saving and life-changing services, and is a voice for the voiceless.[/p][p]I'd be so grateful for anything you can give - thank you. x[/p][p]PS.
