My story

[p]Event delayed to September 2020 due to Covid-19. My story is the same, now with more time to train and raise money! [/p][p]Thank you for taking the time to read this; my name is Katie Hislop and I would describe myself as a mum, wife, swimmer, runner, Royal Engineer, skier - I am passionate, determined, optimistic and a little nervous about taking on this challenge. This is my story:[/p][p]"On 15th April 2000 I crossed the finish line of the 15th Marathon des Sables in just under 40 hours and decided there and then that I would love to come back and do it all again one day; 20 years later, in April 2020, I will be back in Morocco again to do just that although this time I am balancing running training with swimming, work, family, travel and life.[/p][p]In 2000 I was fresh out of training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and had only just started my military career; at the time I had no idea that 20 years later I would still love the Army and have enjoyed the many challenges, privileges, joys and tragedies that it would bring. Recognising that I have been incredibly lucky to have served around the world, in Northern Ireland, Kosovo, Iraq, Afghanistan and South Sudan operationally, it feels right to be doing this crazy race for a charity that means a huge amount to those who have not been so lucky; those who have suffered life-changing injuries and need support to re-build and enhance their lives, so please give generously and in return I will put everything I have into completing this race and attempting to do so a little faster than 20 years ago - after all I've had a couple of decades to train now!"[/p][p][br][/p]
