My story

[p]I'm taking on The Wall! I'll be running 69 miles in one day, and my journey will take me from from Carlisle Castle to Millennium Bridge in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, through Hadrian's Wall country. It's going to be an epic adventure! [/p][p]I'm raising money for West Mercia Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre, a charity that helps to support survivors of rape, child sexual exploitation, sexual abuse, assault and harassment throughout Worcestershire and Herefordshire, by offering a free, confidential, non-judgemental support service for survivors who have experienced any form of rape or sexual abuse at any time. [/p][p]This charity is very close to my heart. I am a helpline volunteer and next year, I will start my placement as a trainee counsellor. Your support is really appreciated, for both me and the charity, and also the amazing courage of the individuals that use the charity's services![/p][p]In preparation for this challenge, I'm running Shakespeare Marathon (Stratford-upon-Avon) on 28 April, and Worcester Marathon on 19 May. I am also taking part in the Cotswold 24 hour race on 3 August.[/p][p]* Update on 26 April: training has gone really well, I had a calf issue in January which took 3 weeks to completely sort out, but since then it's been great, and I've managed a few weekends of back-to-back long runs. Last Sunday, a sore spot appeared in my left calf so I've mostly rested during this taper week, with just spin bike and upper strength sessions on Monday, and then a 2 mile test run this morning, which was fine. I had a sports massage on Wednesday and everything felt good, so fingers crossed it will all hold up ok during Sunday's marathon! Excited now![/p][p]* Update on 4 May: I got a marathon PB, by 11 mins 32 secs, woohoo! I really enjoyed the race and felt great. I’ve tested this week, and been out for a little run today. Two weeks tomorrow is Worcester Marathon 😃[/p][p]* Update on 26 May: Training’s going well. I skipped Worcester Marathon because my lower left leg was a bit sore and needed a rest. It’s feeling a bit better now, and I’m super excited for my ultra! I’ve entered Chester Marathon in October, to make up for skipping this one![/p][p]* Update on 10 June: It's race week, woohoo! Time to get my kit ready, carb load, foam roll and stretch, and get mentally prepared for this adventure. I cannot wait! [/p]
