My story

[p]‘Samaritans is a unique charity dedicated to reducing feelings of isolation and disconnection that can lead to suicide. Every six seconds we respond to a call for help. Every year, we answer more than 5 million calls for help by phone, email, SMS, letter or face to face at one of our local branches [/p][p]We're here 24/7, before, during and after a crisis.[/p][p]Together with other Samaritans from across the UK I will be completing a 350 mile bike ride from London to York (via Colchester, Cambridge, Kings Lynn, Lincoln and Hull) to raise money for this incredible organisation. Every week across the UK 20,000 Samaritans volunteers provide 24/7 listening and spoken word support to people in emotional distress. I do hope you will be able to give financially to support the work that these volunteers do- emotional distress, mental ill health, loneliness and isolation can affect us all. All the monies I raise will go directly towards the Colchester Samaritans branch which is run entirely by volunteers (all my subsistence and accommodation costs are being funded separately by myself).[/p][p]· £5 funds a Samaritan volunteer responding to a call from someone whose life is in crisis. [/p][p]· £10 funds a Samaritan volunteer supporting someone dropping into a branch.[/p][p]· £25 funds a Samaritan volunteer replying to ten emails and texts from people needing support.[/p][p]· £50 helps keep a Samaritans Branch open through the night.[/p][p]· £100 trains an additional Samaritans volunteer.[/p]
