[p]LBR =Laid Back Rider ..Nic that's me :-)[/p][p]My website. www.laidbackrider.co.uk[/p][p]Bowel Cancer UK's vision is that by 2050 nobody will die from bowel cancer.[/p][p]My Story [/p][p]Wanting to do something to raise awareness and raise funds I planned, organised and funded an unsupported ride from John O’Groats to Lands End. Sadly my mum didn’t get to see me complete the ride. She however give her support in a radio interview . My mum had had no symptoms up until the last , which is all too common. We need to keep on raising awareness and get people to get themselves checked. The ride took 12 days and included a trip to hospital for me! ( details of the two previous rides can be found via my current website). Gaining some great publicity and raising over £3000 I decided I needed to ride again and did the reverse route in 2015. Again great publicity and this time raising over £5000. This time no trip to hospital but did suffer with my back during and after the ride. This I later discovered was due to having two prolapsed discs. Fast forward, 18 months of rehab and my back is generally improved however my two wheeled upright cycling days are over at 52. It’s just too painful and sets the sciatica off ever time I ride. However I’m not a quitter!! [/p][p]The Plan [/p][p]I have just switched to a recumbent trike and training for the ride is just about to begin. What ride you might ask ? Well bigger and better than before I now plan on cycling from Northern to Southern France just under a 1000 miles in 12 DAYS! On the route i'll cycle up a Tour de France mountain called Mont Ventoux! The reason for the ride is again to spread the Beating Bowel Cancer message and raising them some more money. Almost 16,000 people die from bowel cancer in the UK every year. Sadly this included my mum back in 2013. It is the second most common cause of cancer death in the UK, behind lung cancer.
