My story

[p]At the start of 2019 and just a few months before we got married, my beautiful wife Chevonne was diagnosed with dense deposit disease, an ultra-rare disease which causes the immune system to attack the kidneys. At present there is no cure and we had to come to terms with the fact that this disease would be a burden we would carry for the rest of our lives.[/p][p]We still got married a few months later and had a wonderful time, however a particularly bad flare up of the disease meant that our first month of marriage was spent in hospital. Since then Chevonne’s treatment has become more stable, however she has to spend three days a week in hospital to receive dialysis in order to stay alive. [/p][p]We are very grateful for many of the things we still have and our wonderful friends and family who support us, however we long for the normal life we once had and greater stability in the day to day. [/p][p]Fortunately, charities like kidney research UK do amazing work in furthering our understanding kidney diseases: it was research funded by them that first identified Chevonne’s disease a mere 10 years ago. We hope that further projects they sponsor will help us in the battle against the disease, and maybe even one day find a cure.[/p][p]And so I’m running the Big Half (half marathon) in March to raise money for Kidney research UK with eager hope that our contributions will help the 2 million people in the UK fighting kidney disease.[/p][p][br][/p]
