My story

[p]Hi my name is Emmileah and I am 11 years old. I have never had a hair cut, apart from a trim of my first curls when I was 1 years old. My hair measures 50 inches long from top of my head to the longest point. [/p][p]On the 22nd February 2019 I will be cutting half of my hair off if we reach our target. That will be 25 inches. I would like to raise £100 per inch so that will total £2500. [/p][p]The charities I would like to raise the money for are two charities that mean a lot to me.[/p][p]The first charity is LoveUKeira. This charity is to support the research into brain tumours. The reason I have chosen this charity is because my friend Callum lost his little sister Keira to a brain tumour and I want to help stop this from happening to any other children and their families. [/p][p]The second charity is Sepsis UK. The reason I have chosen this charity is because my friend Lily's mum passed away from this. I want to raise the money in her memory. [/p][p]I want to let people know about Keira and Joy and what happened to them, their friends and family too. It was really sad what happened to them. I was really upset when I found out. [/p][p]Hopefully the fundraising and the event will help save someone and their families in the future. [/p][p]Thank you for reading, please donate if you can I will be fundraising up until the event please tell your friends to help me reach my target. [/p][p]Love Emmileah x[/p][p]Keira's Story[/p][p]On the 1st August 2011 our little girl was born, we named her Keira Elise Lee. Keira joined our family as our 4th child and was doted on by her siblings from the moment she arrived home. [/p][p]Keira was a very happy, kind, caring and gentle soul. She loved playing with her toys, especially her dollies, snuggling up to read books, singing at her local Sign & Rhyme group, playing at the park and most of all having fun with her older siblings [/p][p]Keira’s favourite food was sausages, chicken nuggets, Pringles and chocolate Magic Stars, she loved watching Peppa Pig.[/p][p]On the 5th December 2013 at the age of 2 years and 4 months, Keira sadly passed away, just 1 week after being diagnosed with a brain tumour. You can read her story here.[/p][p]In honour of our beautiful daughter we set up The Brain Tumour Charity: LoveUKeira Fund to help raise awareness and funding for research. We fully support the HeadSmart awareness campaign which aims to reduce diagnosis times.[/p][p]Please be aware of the signs and symptoms of brain tumours via www.headsmart.org.uk[/p][p]Other links: www.loveukeira.co.uk; www.thebraintumourcharity.org[/p][p][br][/p][p]Joy’s Story[/p][p]On Tuesday 24th October 2017, Joy was taken ill with what appeared to be ‘flu. So, like any other time this happened, she rested, took Lemsips etc and tried to shake it off. Wednesday came and she was no better – in fact if anything, she felt even worse. With husband Gary away on a business trip to Canada, she asked her mum to take the kids for the day so she could get more rest. Come Thursday, Joy’s sister arrived from France for a visit, took one look at her and called the doctor. The doctor called an ambulance, suspecting a possible kidney infection. She was rushed into hospital where it became quickly apparent there was something more going on. She was put under general anaesthetic and exploratory surgery began. Suddenly, the team were faced with multiple organ failure and try as they might they were unable to save her. She died at 3.15am on 27th October. She was 41.[/p][p]The subsequent post-mortem revealed that the organ failure was as a result of Sepsis – an all too common condition when the bodies’ own immune system aggressively attacks itself in defence. There is a huge campaign now to raise awareness about this – and if Joy’s untimely passing can help to save others, then her death will seem a little less pointless.[/p]
