Team story

[p]A warm welcome and thank you for visiting[/p][p]Chris McLaren, Lisa Adams and Paul Maung-Maung have decided to undertake the Thames Path Challenge in aid of Cystic Fibrosis, a life threatening condition which has no cure. [/p][p]Chris, Lisa and Paul have been friends since the age of 8, and are part of a larger group of old school friends who have remained in contact for over 40 years. During this time the greatest change in our lives has been having children, the joy, frustration and anxiety that comes with having a family.[/p][p]Unfortunately, one of our friends has a son born with Cystic Fibrosis.[/p][p]In recognition of our 50th year and to raise much need money for Cystic Fibrosis Trust - Lisa, Chris and Paul are putting their good foot forward to walk 100km over a 24 hr period from Putney to Henley-on-Thames whatever the weather conditions on the 29th/30th September. We hope you are able to support this worthwhile cause.[/p][p][/p][span=font-size: 16px; color: #334277; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 10px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; font-weight: 700; background-image: url(http://www.cftrust.org.uk/images/li-white.gif); background-position: 100% 50%; background-repeat: no-repeat no-repeat;]What is Cystic Fibrosis?[/span][ul] [li]Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is one of the UK's most common life-threatening inherited diseases.[/li] [/ul] [ul] [li]It is caused by a faulty gene that controls the movement of salt and water in and out of the cells within the body.[/li] [/ul] [ul] [li]Cystic Fibrosis affects the internal organs, especially the lungs and digestive system, by clogging them with thick sticky mucus. This makes it hard to breathe and digest food.[/li] [/ul] [ul] [li]Over 9,000 people in the UK have Cystic Fibrosis.[/li] [/ul] [ul] [li]If two carriers have a child, the baby has a 1 in 4 chance of having Cystic Fibrosis.[/li] [/ul] [ul] [li]Over two million people in the UK carry the faulty gene that causes Cystic Fibrosis - around 1 in 25 of the population.[/li] [/ul] [ul] [li]Over 95% of the UK CF population is Caucasian, but CF affects many ethnic groups.[/li] [/ul] [ul] [li]Each week, five babies are born with Cystic Fibrosis.[/li] [/ul] [ul] [li]Each week, two young lives are lost to Cystic Fibrosis.[/li] [/ul] [ul] [li] [lt]p style="line-height: 1.5em; margin-right: 10px;"[gt]Currently half of the CF population will live past 41 years of age, and improvements in treatments mean a baby born today is expected to live even longer.[/p][/li][/ul][p][/p][p][span=-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.296875); -webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(175, 192, 227, 0.230469); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(77, 128, 180, 0.230469);]We recently read that there has been a breakthrough with specific treatments for a strain of Cystic Fibrosis. Now is the time to support the research and drive the progress forward.[/span][/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. [/p][p]We really appreciate all your support and thank you for all donations.[/p][p][/p][p]Lisa, Chris & Paul[/p]
