My story

[p][span=color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;]Hello![/span][/p] [p]I'm Lisa, mum to Rosie who's just celebrated her first birthday in Bristol's Royal Hospital for Children.[/p][p]My husband and I found out a couple of months ago that our beautiful little girl Rosie has a life-limiting condition. She had feeding difficulties from birth and doctors always referred to her as 'hypotonic' - a term used to describe a lack of muscle tone. She's braved numerous hospital visits and a huge array of tests with a muscle biopsy earlier this year finally confirming her diagnosis. She has a rare form of muscular dystrophy - Nemaline Rod Myopathy (NRM).[/p][p]66% of babies with NRM die before the age of two. We could never understand how this could ever happen to Rosie until last month. She'd picked up two nasty (but common) bugs from a local baby play group. Within 24 hours she'd gone into respiratory arrest. As my husband frantically carried her blue-grey, lifeless body through the doors of A&E it was seconds before an alarm was raised and 20 doctors and nurses surrounded her, pumping her chest to bring her back to life.[/p][p]We just feel so incredibly lucky that we were outside the doors of the hospital on our way to the A&E department when this happened, otherwise I would be writing this a whole lot differently. We thank all of the staff on the Intensive Care Unit who's cared and looked after Rosie so well over the last month. She's been on a life support machine, had oxygen support throughout and despite a recent collapsed lung set back, she's come back fighting. [/p][p]What she lacks in physical strength, she certainly makes up for in mind and spirit. She is a warrior. Our warrior. Making life a colourful place to be, bringing love and laughter wherever she goes. So it only seemed right to join the running masses on the 20th June in the rainbow run, to help raise much needed funds for such a wonderful charity who's helping make the short lives of so many children and their families so enjoyable. [lt]br /[gt] [lt]br /[gt]The children's hospice is new to us, but they have welcomed Rosie with open arms. Like many other children in the area who have additional needs, this hospice provides families like us with a place to feel like we're not alone. They provide love and care and facilities that we could never be able to give Rosie, whilst giving us as a family the emotional strength and support we need to help give Rosie the best life she can possibly have - no matter how short it may be.[lt]br /[gt]  [lt]br /[gt]So I ask. Please will you support me in this colourful challenge? Even giving just a little, personally means an awful lot.[/p][p]Thank you x [/p][p]To my Rosie, my beautiful angel. I'm doing this for you. Life has presented you with challenges that no child should ever have to face. My promise to you and all other children with life-limiting conditions is that I will never stop doing my bit to give what I can, when I can, however I can to make your lives the best they can be. I love you with all my heart, mummy x[/p] [lt]br /[gt][p][/p]
