Team story

CHALLENGE COMPLETED IN 23 HOURS 15 MINUTES

WELL DONE TO ALL INVOLVED!

This challenge is inspired by Edie (aged 2) and aims to fund more of the scientific research that has allowed her and many other children survive leukaemia.

The challenge is to run along the canal towpath from Liverpool to Leeds in 24 hours in a relay of friends. We'll be passing the Canal Turn at Aintree, Wigan Pier, the Burnley Embankment, Foulridge Tunnel and of course the Five Rise Locks at Bingley.

Can we do it? 127 miles divided by 24 is 5.3 miles per hour (or 11 minute miles). Sounds ok, but can we sustain it for 24 hours (yes, overnight!) without any injuries or slip ups? We'll see, but as they say it's all for a good cause.

So, please give generously, a pound a mile will be fine!

Thanks, Adam, Beth, Hannah, Sue, Jo, Julie, Graham, Alice, Brian, Toby, Chris, Andrew, Sean, Debra, Bernard, Michelle and the Team

Notes

Why Liverpool Leeds? Well it's the longest canal in the country at 127 miles. It starts in Liverpool (where Sue was born); the halfway point is at Clayton-le-Moors (where Edie lives); and it finishes in Leeds where most of us now live and where our kids were born.

Why 26-27 June? It's close to the summer solstice and it's a night of a full moon: better for lunatics running alongside the canal at night!

We will be carrying a tracker on the weekend of the event. Copy this link into your internet browser and click refresh periodically to see how we're doing:

http://www.instamapper.com/ext?key=13547669948239070226

We start at Stanley Dock at 12:00 on Saturday and finish at Granary Wharf at about the same time on Sunday.

If you would like to join us en route for a few miles, just let one of us know and we'll sign you up! The relay schedule is now available.

Ps.The official stuff. Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
