My story

[p]Thanks so much for taking the time to visit my page.[/p][p]I will be running the London Marathon 2018 for Tommy’s, a charity that resonates with me very closely.[/p][p]My story[/p][p]I, like thousands of babies each year, was born prematurely. I was a nice surprise for all involved when my mother visited her sisters for a weekend and I showed up several months before my due date. On 7th June 1990, I arrived in this world, blue and weighing a massive 2 pounds. The uncertainty that followed over the coming months was hard on all of my family, in particular my parents. They struggled not only with the thought of me not making it through the night, but also if I did survive what effects this would have on me for the rest of my life. I, thankfully, have turned out pretty well (depending on who you ask, of course) but now I think it’s my turn to do my bit. [/p][p]I believe that with the research that Tommy's currently undertake many families in the UK will hopefully not have to experience what my family went through 27 years ago.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Latest facts about pregnancy for the UK[/p][p]In 2015, 777,165 babies were born alive.[/p][p]In that same year, there were: [/p][p]3035 stillbirths[/p][p]1,360 neonatal deaths[/p][p]850 deaths of babies at 22 and 23 weeks of pregnancy[/p][p]Every year, 60,000 babies are born pre-term (i.e. before 9 months) [/p][p]1 in 4 women lose a baby during pregnancy and childbirth. [/p][p][br][/p][p]Your money[/p][p]You will all agree that these horrific statistics are far too high. I know that Tommy's can help and with your donation, you can be part of the solution.[/p][p]Your money will go towards helping Tommy’s carry out their essential research, investigating causes and finding treatments for miscarriages, stillbirth and prem babies, as well as giving families the professional, emotional and practical support they deserve during this incredibly difficult time. [/p][p]Thank you for supporting such a great charity! [/p][p]Marc[/p]
