Team story

[p]

[/p][p]It’s been nearly a year since my eldest son, Matt, who was extremely fit and full of life passed away unexpectedly from a severe heart attack at the age of 21. After what has been a traumatic period I am keen to do something in his memory that will also raise much needed funding to help reduce the risk that this will happen to other families in the future. I have therefore decided to take on the Blenheim half marathon on Sunday 4th October.  This run is also about the great friends who have done so much to support me, Debbie, Georgia, Harry & Frankie-  a good number of whom have 'volunteered' to take on this challenge with me. Georgia and I will be accompanied on the run by 12 close friends who have been with us at every stage over the last year, together with assorted children and work colleagues! [/p][p]It should be a great day but the real purpose is to raise as much money as we can for the charity, Cardiac Risk in the Young or 'CRY'. Cry not only provides great support to the bereaved family, it does tremendous work screening teenagers and young adults and funds a research programme into the causes and prevention of cardiac death in the young at St George's hospital in Tooting [/p][p]We have decided to combine the fundraising efforts of the whole team into this one Virgin Giving page as this reflects the togetherness of us as a group both for the run as well as everything else that has happened since Matt passed away.[/p][p]After a general donation to the British Heart Foundation, the funds raised will be split between the research and screening programmes run by CRY. Until used by the charity the funds will be held in Matt’s name and I can't think of a more a fitting epitaph to my much loved and much missed son. [/p][p]So please give generously and let's see if we can make a difference in the challenge of finding a way to prevent cardiac death in the young. [/p]   [p] [/p]
