My story

[p]We’re taking part in the Virgin Money Giving 2.6 Challenge! [/p][p]A team of intrepid Marks Hall Estate staff will be donning their trainers and taking it in (socially distanced) turns to walk, skip, jog or even run 26 kilometres around the Arboretum over the next week.[/p][p]Managed and cared for by a charitable trust, Marks Hall Estate includes a world-class Arboretum showcasing a collection of rare trees and plants from across the globe, broadleaved and ancient woodlands, relaxing lakes, a walled garden featuring the longest herbaceous border in the county, an 18th century Essex barn and much more.[/p][p]The valued support you give plays a really important role in the conservation and education work that we do on the Estate. As a registered charity, the Trust is dependent on its own resources, and with your assistance we will ensure that this special place can be enjoyed by generations to come.[/p][p]Meet the team[/p][p]Ian Chandler, Arboretum Manager - Marks Hall Estates very own ultra-marathon runner who has completed 11 marathons and 6 ultra marathons as well as countless ‘halfs’ and shorter distances. He can also be found on two wheels where he has cycled from London to Paris in just four days. [/p][p]Martin Bowers, Senior Arborist - Not so much of a runner, Martin is the Estate’s chief tree climber. He enjoys long walks, especially around Tractor Shows at this time of year.[/p][p]Lisa Calvert, Events Manager - The lady who brought the team together and organised the challenge! Lisa is an experienced hiker having completed two Moonlight Marathons, the Thames Path Challenge, various mud and colour 5k races and cycled over 80 miles for WWF.[/p][p]Richard, Estate Manager - Richard enjoys the odd 5k fun run and will be undertaking this challenge with his four-legged training partner, Nellie. [/p][p]Nanette Gaskell, HR and Volunteer Manager - A London Marathon veteran (with no intention of ever running another one) Nanette will be joined by fellow team member Moose on her adventure around the Arboretum.[/p][p]Moose, Chief Morale Officer - Moose is a bouncy 2-year-old vizsla cross and the face of #WoofWeekdays on the Estate. His favourite hobby is chasing things and he is a fast runner so will be keeping Nanette on her toes.
