My story
[p]My Mother was diagnosed with Parkinson's 10 years ago and I have witnessed the pain, frustration and constant battle this debilitating disease brings to individuals, and those around them.[/p][p]So this year, to mark the 20th anniversary of my Restaurant I would like to do my bit, by raising money for The Cure Parkinson's Trust by achieving a personal goal of mine: sailing across the Atlantic Ocean.[/p][p]After only 6 years sailing experience, I have decided to take on one of the biggest feats and adventures in sailing for Charity: Sailing across the Atlantic.[/p][p]Sailing has brought a different perspective to my life. Witnessing my mother learning to live with Parkinson’s has made me reflect on the similarities between sailing and living with a condition such as Parkinson’s: every day is a new challenge and you are faced with the un-known of what is to come. [/p][p]My mother has always believed and trusts in the progress of science and this is the reason why my team and I have decided to create this fundraiser to support the research of The Cure Parkinson’s Trust.” [/p][p]I would like raise as much money as possible with a target of £40,000.00[/p][p]Since its inception in 2005, The Cure Parkinson's Trust (CPT) has challenged the view that there is no cure for Parkinson's. Their mission is to find disease-modifying treatments which slow, stop or even reverse Parkinson's (PD). Currently, management of the condition is only symptomatic. Their goal is to discover treatments that change the way the disease progresses and transform the lives of those who live with Parkinson's. Thanks to major inroads and constant advances in their understanding of PD, new efforts to match the emerging science with innovative therapies are underway around the world. Their work is to guide, promote and sustain these efforts and ultimately find a cure. (https://www.cureparkinsons.org.uk)[/p][p]The Cure Parkinson’s Trust needs donations to help fund and support their research into finding a cure.[/p][p]I would like to help science to find a cure for future generations![/p][p]Four crew and I will set sail on the 11th of November 2019, starting from Portugal and heading south along the west coast of Africa, reaching Gran Canaria in mid November. From there I will be Sailing SW picking up the trade winds then heading west towards St Lucia. A crossing of around 3,500 miles and will take just under 4 weeks.[/p][p]Please follow me on my journey across my social media platforms: [/p][p]Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/MartinWishartAtlanticSail[/p][p]Instagram - http://www.instagram.com/martin_wishart_atlantic_sail[/p][p]My company, Martin Wishart Limited, will fully sponsor all of the costs involved to prepare and run the boat including safety equipment, food, supplies and general running costs of the crossing.[/p][p]100% of the money raised will be donated to The Cure Parkinson's Trust.[/p][p]I would like to take this opportunity to thank all who are involved in making this possible. [/p][p]May you have fair winds & following seas [/p][p]Martin ⛵[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p]
