[p]Hi, thanks for visiting my page. Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Me talking... I’m an ex Army Royal Engineer who served in Afghanistan and was lucky enough to come home unscathed to my family. I want to give back to those that have given so much for our country! Every penny helps and is soo soo appreciated! Wish my luck and thanks again! Much love, Matty [/p][p]The one story I do want to share is one from my tour in Afghan. I spent my tour doing a wide range of duties and was lucky enough to see a lot of Helmand. I spent some as top cover on vehicles manning a GPMG and basically looking out for anything out of the ordinary. I spent other parts of my tour helping up grade operating bases and roads and building bridges. Every day was different and each came with their own challenges. The very first day out on the ground we as a section were heading to an operation base. To build a road up close to the base. because there were incidents of ied explosions happening and insurgents digging in ieds close to the base. [/p][p]We headed to the camp in a convoy of vehicles to carry out our task and I was in a large drops vehicle.[/p][p]WE WERE INVOLVED IN AN IED BLAST!! We had driven over an ied and it had detonated beneath us. I’m so lucky to say that one.. we were in a large vehicle and two... the large charge that had been dug in had only partially detonated and we didn’t get the full explosion. Who knows how much damage that could have done. And If we had walked on the road I would have at least needed the great help of my charity or quite possibly could have been killed. [/p][p]This story helps me live my life the full and helps me focus on my goals. I’m so lucky to have this life and know I want to give back to this great charity. Please give what you can and help me reach my target!! Let’s do this! My pictures are of me and my section and the convoy and the vehicle I was in on this day... there are also a couple of other photos Of the damage that ieds can do .. even to such a big vehicle!!
