My story

[p]Due to covid we had to delay our munro walk and make some changes to make sure we can (hopefully) do it this year. [/p][p][br][/p][p]Instead of Schiehallion we are going to do An Clisham. It isn't quite a munro but is the largest hill in the Outer Hebrides and will still be a massive challenge after all these lock downs (Especially for Emily and Skye) ! We will be doing it the last week of August so wish us luck! [/p][p][br][/p][p]We are Emily, Rachel and Skye and we are going to spend the winter and spring training to climb Schiehallion. Emily and Skye have never climbed a hill, let alone a mountain! This is going to take a lot of training and practice over the next few months but we are all very excited for the challenge.[/p][p]Schiehallion is a 3,553 ft (1083 m) Munro (mountain to us non-Scots). To put that into perspective, Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh is 823 ft and Pen y Fan in South Wales is 2,907 ft. Or to put it another way, we will be climbing the equivalent of 10 Big Bens! The walk should take approximately 6 hours up to the top and back down. Maybe longer given Skye's tiny corgi legs. [/p][p]This is going to be a big adventure for all three of us and we will be photographing, filming and documenting it every step of the way. We hope you'll enjoy seeing our story and you'll cheer us on all the way![/p][p]We have chosen to do this for The Pernicious Anaemia Society as it is something close to our hearts. Rachel's gran Elsie suffers from Pernicious Anaemia, a condition that most people have never heard of, let along know much about. We hope we can raise funds and awareness for the charity so they can further help people with the condition. Any donations we get will be matched pound for pound by HSBC where Emily and Rachel work.[/p][p]Please check our fb page for updates:[/p][p]https://www.facebook.com/The-McEwans-are-Climbing-A-Mountain-101725768089910/[/p][p]Pernicious Anaemia: [/p][p]Pernicious Anaemia is a condition caused by a chronic lack of vitamin B12 as the body struggles to absorb it from diet. Although it can be treated by B12 injections it can be difficult to diagnose and can lead to serious complications, such as dementia which is something that Rachel's gran has developed. ?[/p][p]The charity's mission: To secure a full and comprehensive review of the way in which Pernicious Anaemia is diagnosed and treated that will lead to more timely diagnoses and better treatment by: Providing information to patients and health professionals; Providing help and support to patients and their families; Engaging in research with the health research community; Lobbying decision makers.[/p]
