Team story

[lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]Thanks for taking the time to visit my sponsorship page.[lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt]I have been lucky enough to have been chosen to make up a special team and represent Mind to raise money for this brilliant charity. Our challenge is to walk 40 miles along the historic Offa Dyke National Trail that winds along the Welsh border in 24 hours, trekking day and night to complete the challenge.[lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt]Unique to Mind, our team trek will test both physical and mental endurance while we walk some of Britain’s most beautiful and unspoilt countryside. It’s going to be tough, but I hope to draw strength and inspiration from my team mates and knowing I am doing something positive for mental health awareness.[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]Mind provides advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. They campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding. Through public campaigns, government lobbying and the more than 1,000 services the local Minds have delivered in communities across England and Wales, last year they reached over 7 million people with support and advice.[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]The mind, like the body, is prone to disease or disorder, and we must end the stigma of mental health problems. My inspiration for doing this is my lovely dad, Trevor, who after a long and brave battle with depression, lost his fight on 14th January 2013. People suffering from depression are told to seek help when in reality that help is often unavailable. My dad didnt seek the help he needed and lost his life as a result. We need more research, more treatment options, we need a revolution in mental healthcare.[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]Healing has been and still continues to be a long and grief-stricken process. There were times when I felt very alone in my grief and there were times when I felt lost and confused. Much like Dad would have done battling day in and day out with his own mental health. Raising money and awareness for Mind enables them to reach out to all those in crisis because no one should face a mental health problem alone and people should never be made to feel worse for suffering from something beyond their control.[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]I have no idea if this is a common dream amongst suicide survivors, but I have it a lot. In my dream, my Dad is still alive and in the same house with my Mum. In the dream, we're also aware that he had attempted suicide. We know all the things we later learned. His pain. His fragility. And we all try to keep him safe, to help him work through it. We know the full extent of everything he was going through. But he's alive. Supporting Mind can help others like Dad and provide them with the support they need to beat their disease.[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]Thank you, Jess xx[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]Mind have published a blog I wrote for Time to Talk day which can be read at http://www.mind.org.uk/information-support/your-stories/my-time-to-talk/#.VrjPkN0nzIU[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]On Friday 11th April the Huffington Post UK published my first blog which can be read here http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/jess-neal/surviving-bereavement-by-suicide_b_9635360.html[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt][/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt][/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]
