My story

[p]Last year, the (general entry) London Marathon was cancelled.[/p][p]Which means that my place, provided to me by Shelter, has been deferred to October 2021. But the story has changed.[/p][p]On January 15th, I slipped on ice while running and fractured my ankle. As I write this, I'm sitting in a cast, and will be for the next six weeks.[/p][p]Then the fun begins, as I get myself back into marathon shape.[/p][p]This is no longer guy-who-runs-lots-of-marathons marathoning.[/p][p]No.[/p][p]Now it is a long recovery story.[/p][p]Please, support me, support Shelter, and let's get back to racing this year.[/p][p]Update - May 2021[/p][p]Hello, everybody![/p][p]It's May now, and I still haven't been on a run since January 15th. BUT my physio says I should try my first run around the middle of the month.[/p][p]There's no resisting it, it's going to have to be on May 15th. The four month anniversary of the break.[/p][p]My goal will be to run for one minute, five times, with walk breaks in between. A long way from a marathon, but the first steps![/p][p]UPDATE: Success! The first five minutes are done![/p][p]A marathon isn't just the 26.2 miles - it's all the training miles in between. The several hundred miles that make up the 2021 London Marathon begin now![/p][p]Update - September 2021[/p][p]With three weeks to go, I've now managed a 23 mile day, a 55 mile week, and a 90 minute half. Though not all at once.[/p][p]We're heading into the taper now, and everything looks better than I could have expected back in January. Thank you everybody for your support, and I'll see you at the finish![/p]
