My story

[p][br][/p][p] [/p][p] [/p][p]WHEELCHAIR SKATERS TO SKATE FROM LONDON TO BRUSSELS 2018[/p][p] [/p][p]Six days + 60 people + 400km + rollerblades + skates + wheelchairs [/p][p]Wheels and Wheelchairs is a dynamic group of London-based skaters, rollerbladers and wheelchair users who regularly skate together through the streets and parks of the city. [/p][p] [/p][p]The wheelchair users are pushed by the skaters enabling them to enjoy the thrill of speed against the background of Britain’s beautiful capital. Wheels and Wheelchairs also tackled the Berlin Inline Marathon last year, and a 6 hour endurance race in Paris.[/p][p] [/p][p]This summer Wheels and Wheelchairs is undertaking its most ambitious project yet. Over six days in summer the team will skate from London to Brussels via Rochester, Canterbury, Dunkirk, Bruges and Ghent.[/p][p] [/p][p]Skaters will set off on Monday, August 27th supported by back up vehicles and back up cyclists. They will cover up to 80 km each day, arriving in Brussels on Saturday September 1st.[/p][p] [/p][p]Wheels and Wheelchairs was set up in 2012, inspired by Mobile en Ville, a similar organisation based in Paris, who pushed five wheelchair users from Paris to London to attend the Paralympics.[/p][p] [/p][p]In 2014, Wheels and Wheelchairs took one wheelchair user from the UK, pushed by four UK skaters, and joined the skaters and wheelchair users from Mobile en Ville and together skated from Paris to Brussels. One wheelchair user from Belgium and several Belgian skaters also joined that event.[/p][p] [/p][p]This summer’s London to Brussels skate will complete the third leg of the triangle. [/p][p] [/p][p]The 60-strong team will be made up of 20 people from each of the three countries crossed.[/p][p]Participants will include wheelchair users, skaters - pushing the wheelchair users - a lead marshall, a rear marshall, route marshalls - ensuring the safety of the cortege - two back-up cyclists, vehicle drivers and the back-up teams organising food and accommodation.[/p][p]Volunteers are supporting the Wheels and Wheelchairs charity by planning routes, fundraising, recruiting back-up teams, transport, meals, overnight accommodation, and promotion.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Wheels and Wheelchairs Chairman, Janet Richards, said: “London to Brussels is a wildly exciting adventure for our charity. It will be fantastic to show solidarity with our sister groups in France and Belgium by completing the triangle they started.[/p][p]“As a wheelchair user myself I can testify these unique trips are life-enhancing and enabling.[/p][p] [/p][p]“We are most grateful to everyone who has donated their time, energy and cash to making this happen.”[/p][p] [/p][p] [/p][p] [/p][p]NOTE -[/p][p] [/p][p]Wheels and Wheelchairs is a charity run by volunteers and funded by donations.[/p][p] [/p][p]The wheelchairs used are made of light weight aluminium, and a third wheel is attached to the front of the wheelchair converting it into a racing-style wheelchair, providing stability going round corners, and at high speeds.[/p][p] [/p][p]Experienced skaters push disabled children and adults with a number of different disabilities. Skaters annually push children from the Demelza Hospice around Battersea Park.[/p][p] [/p][p] [/p][p]ITINERARY[/p][p] [/p][p]Day 1 [/p][p]Monday [August Bank Holiday] 27 August, 2018 –[/p][p]Depart at 10 am from London’s Southbank heading towards Woolwich via Parliament Square and Tower Bridge[/p][p]Overnight stop in Rochester[/p][p] [/p][p]Day 2[/p][p]Tuesday 28 August 2018[/p][p]Depart from Rochester at 9 am[/p][p]Overnight stay in Canterbury[/p][p] [/p][p]Day 3[/p][p]Wednesday 29 August 2018[/p][p]Depart from Canterbury at 9 am[/p][p]Arrive in Dover before 6 pm[/p][p]Take the ferry from Dover to Dunkirk[/p][p]Overnight stay in Dunkirk[/p][p] [/p][p]Day 4[/p][p]Thursday 30 August 2018[/p][p]Depart from Dunkirk at 9 am[/p][p]Overnight Stay in Bruges[/p][p][br][/p][p]Day 5[/p][p]Friday 31 August 2018[/p][p]Depart from Bruges at 9 am[/p][p]Overnight stay in Ghent[/p][p][br][/p][p]Day 6 - THE FINAL DAY[/p][p]Depart from Ghent at 9 am[/p][p]Arrive in Brussels – our final destination[/p][p][br][/p][p] [/p][p] [/p][p]CONTACTS[/p][p] [/p][p]In the UK –[/p][p]Muhayman Jamil[/p][p][/p][p]00 44 791 9497 295[/p][p] [/p][p] London Brussels 2018 [][/p][p]Wheels and Wheelchairs [][/p][p]Mobile en Ville [][/p][p]Rouli Roula pour tous []) [/p]
