My story

[p] The Music Circle’s sponsored night walk through London to show their support for the fact that Menstruation Matters[/p][p][br][/p][p]Menstruation Matters to the 1 in 10 girls in Africa who miss school during their menstrual cycle, to the 49% of girls in Pakistan who had no knowledge of menstruation before their first period and to the 68,000 women in the UK who live in temporary housing, shelters or on the street who can have poor menstrual wellbeing and little access to affordable sanitary products and facilities.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Breaking taboos around menstruation and dealing with these issues is vital to overcoming gender inequality for women globally. [/p][p][br][/p][p]The Music Circle is keen to address these issues and is holding a sponsored Night Walk in London on 12th June 2018. Taking place just after Menstrual Hygiene Day on May 28th, the event aims to break the silence and build awareness around the issues and raise funds to support impactful projects making a difference for women and girls.[/p][p][br][/p][p]The Music Circle is part of "The Circle," a NGO founded by singer-songwriter and activist Annie Lennox in 2008 to champion women's rights and equality. It is an organisation of women from all walks of life who work collectively to support and empower the lives of women and girls who are unable to realise their rights.[/p][p][br][/p][p]The fifteen-mile night walk will route past sites connected to historical female figures in London remembering that these women, like so many of us, had to deal with their own menstrual health and wellbeing. The walk, which has been created by Blue Badge London Tour Guide prize winner and Author, Rachel Kolsky, will begin at 10pm and end at 6am. Members will be joining the walk after a full day at work and will, after a sleepless night, endeavour to go into work after completing their overnight challenge. [/p][p][br][/p][p]Chair of The Music Circle, Emily Cooper, said: "This event is about bringing women together to not only raise money for our menstruation matters campaign but to also recognise and celebrate the incredible woman of London from history."[/p][p][br][/p][p]The event is taking place on Tuesday 12th June 2018, 22:00pm – 06:00am in London.
