My story

[p]Thank you for visiting my page!! In April I will begin hiking 2650 miles on Pacific Crest Trail and will be fundraising in support of Mind and Mountains for the Mind. Along with raising money for such an important cause, I want to use my journey as an opportunity to talk to everyone and anyone to raise awareness about mental health, keep it in conversation and inspire people to get outside! [/p][p][br][/p][p]“One in four people in Britain experience mental heath problems each year, but spending time outdoors can reduce the risk of depression by 30%.” - Mind, The Mental Health Charity[/p][p][br][/p][p]The problem [/p][p]One in six of us report mental health problems to our GP every week[/p][p]450 million people worldwide currently experience mental health problems[/p][p]Anxiety and depression are the most commonly diagnosed problems[/p][p]Every two hours, someone in England and Wales takes their own life[/p][p][br][/p][p]The solution[/p][p]Walking has been proven to boost self esteem[/p][p]A single exposure to nature can lift your mood for up to seven hours[/p][p]Spending time outdoors can reduce the risk of depression by 30%[/p][p]Regular exercise can be a more effective treatment than taking anti-depressants[/p][p]Being active improves sleep quality, while reducing stress and anxiety levels[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p]Who are Mind?[/p][p]We're Mind, the mental health charity. We believe no one should have to face a mental health problem alone. We're here for you. Today. Now. Whether you're stressed, depressed or in crisis. We'll listen, give support and advice, and fight your corner.[/p][p]We provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. We campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding. We won't give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect.[/p][p]Watch this short video to find out more?[/p][p]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPxHTZRwXX8[/p][p]I'm raising funds to support the important work Mind does and to allow them to continue to be there for everyone who needs them. Please donate if you can. [/p][p]Thank you for taking the time to visit my page and for donating. Your support is hugely appreciated.[/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving*, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to Mind. [/p][p]*Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.[/p][p][br][/p][p]If you are unable to donate today, that is okay. Please help share my journey but more importantly, please check out the campaign run by trail magazine Mountains for the Mind and have a look at the great things Mind are doing.
