My story

[p]The sponsorship money will go to: the Bridge the Gap campaign, which is split equally between the two tax charities, TaxAid and Tax Help for Older People. In the current C-19 pandemic their fundraising has been seriously hampered yet their services are under great demand as they assist vulnerable people that need to make claims to government or need assistance with their income tax affairs. Please: [/p][p] - sponsor us by clicking on 'Donate'; OR/AND[/p][p] - join us on the challenge (and encourage sponsorship of the team or just make your own donation) by registering at: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/notkili2020-the-social-distancing-event-with-altitude-tickets-101976237672?ref=estw[/p][p]Who are we and what are we doing: A group of dedicated tax professionals and friends have decided to do a new challenge with altitude! We plan to climb the 3,600m height of the Kilimanjaro ascent, but in the UK, either by repeat climbs of local hills or up our own stairs while we #StayAtHome. Those without stairs or nearby hills can walk the 72km distance of the trek round the house or outside while permitted. Or do both! But do #StaySafe, #StayAlert! You can take as long as you need to make this a doable challenge for you - but you must complete this by 16 September 2020.[/p][p]Some of us have been preparing for months to complete the #Tax2020Kili sponsored challenge to ascend Mount Kilimanjaro, from the park gates at about 2,400m to the summit at nearly 6,000m, in aid of the two UK tax charities. However, we are now having to defer the trip planned for September 2020 to September 2021. [/p][p]Not wanting to let down the tax charities that so need our support, we urge you to join us. You can do:[/p][p]· The vertical challenge: 1,200 flights of stairs;[/p][p]· The horizontal challenge: 100,000 steps walking or other non-motorised movement (rowing, in a wheelchair, crawling, skipping, hopping) – around 72km; or[/p][p]· Both or make up your own combination - some are aiming to do the 'climb' 3 times![/p][p]Participants need to be tough on themselves when choosing their option - they can choose a length of time to do this in that is a tough challenge for them. They must complete the challenge by 17 September 2020, the date we were originally due to start the Kili challenge. [/p][p]In addition, they can really get into the groove by replicating the extra effort required each day as altitude sickness and low temperatures would set in, by adding their own hindrances, such as by adding weights to their backpack each day, doing some burpees on the way, wearing thicker clothes, taking photos and videos of the views, sleeping outside in a tent (but please use your own loo) and doing the final ‘overnight climb to the peak’ with a head torch![/p][p]Please be generous and donate to these amazing charities as we tackle this mountain.[/p][p]Participants to date include:[/p][p]Stephen Banyard, Valerie Boggs, Tina Riches….[/p]
