Team story

Dear All,

We are raising funds on the 7th London Legal sponsored walk on May 16th 2011 to support the Notre Dame Refugee Centre's legal advice and drop-in services. All funds received by London Legal Support Trust through this page and the gift aid will be given without deduction to NDRC.

Notre Dame Refugee Centre desperately needs the funds to continue supporting and accompanying refugees and asylum seekers in their search for a more just and equitable place in our society, and ensuring that they have the resources to live with dignity while they are doing so.

On average, 60 people visit our Drop-in Cafe on Mondays and Thursdays. It is no coincidence that they are from countries ravaged by war and political conflict, the majority being from the Democratic Republic of Congo. A large number of visitors are women and children who are living in poverty, due to their exclusion from any form of governmental support.

Here's what a few of the centre's visitors have to say: "Here we are treated like human beings, not like animals", "Coming to the centre and seeing others in similar situations gives me the knowledge and courage to persevere with my claim for asylum".

The funds raised through this page will go towards providing help in benefits, housing and immigration to some of the most disadvantaged people in London. So please sponsor us now!

We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.

Susan Roberts, Paul Walsh, Chris Atkinson and Marine de la Tour, Jean Murat, Monica Alcazar, Joelle Stockley, Virginie Malissard, Magali Daillencourt, Fiona Tremethick, Barbara Gehrels, Sophie Pillois and Solange de la Tour.

Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.
