My story

[p]Update 4 October 2020: 10 months after initially signing up, 2 cancellations and many hours of reluctant training later....I finally did it! [/p][p]Thank you thank you thank you again to all those who have donated. When my ankles wanted to give up, I reminded them why they had to keep going.... and they did. (Yes, I started talking to my ankles....) I owe the finish to all of you, thank you ^_^[/p][p][br][/p][p]Update 1 September 2020: Hours after hobbling 20 miles....I found out the Boston Marathon has been cancelled... no fear, I have now signed up to do the virtual London Marathon on the 4 October! [/p][p]Thank you again to all my donors, the pain is more than worth it =).[/p][p][br][/p][p]Update 19 April 2020: The marathon has been postponed to 13 September. I'm still going for it! For now, a training half marathon in Leicester....[/p][p]A big big thank you to those that have donated so far! I hope everyone stays well and safe =).[/p][p][br][/p][p]Three great causes* that will motivate me through the long training runs:[/p][p]1) SAFE Africa (Safer Anaesthesia from Education) - A project providing sustainable education to improve anaesthetic and obstetric care in low resource settings. Training courses have already been delivered in 30 countries to over 3500 anaesthetic providers.[/p][p]2) Age UK - because I believe how we care for our elderly reflects on our society as a whole, and how we care now lays foundations for how we will be cared for ourselves in the future. Age UK campaigns on a national level to improve social care provision, and provides services to the elderly in local communities, with a focus on tackling loneliness.[/p][p]3) Day-Night Clocks for the Intensive Care Unit, Pilgrim Hospital, Boston - because delirium is a significant problem during critical illness, and knowing the time is a simple yet vital step to cognitive recovery. UPDATE 21 July 2020: Sufficient funds for the clocks have been raised, all durther donations are to the charities above![/p][p]Thank you for taking time to come to my page, and even more thanks if you choose to support my chosen causes![/p][p]Links below to the chosen charities:[/p][p]https://anaesthetists.org/Home/International/SAFE-Africa[/p][p]https://www.ageuk.org.uk/[/p][p][br][/p][p]* Up to £120 of cash donations will go towards purchasing 3 Day- Night clocks. All online and remaining cash donations will be split evenly between SAFE Africa and Age UK.[/p]
