My story

[p]My name is Simon Coates, and between 1st March 2021 and 31st October 2021 I will be undertaking the challenge to hike 2000 miles in aid of 16 charities whose work is close to my heart. I am aiming to raise at least £1000 for each of the charities I am supporting, and these funds will make a real difference in enabling the charities to continue their work and survive the extremely challenging times we find ourselves in.[/p][p]You can find out more about the challenge and keep track of how I am getting on on my website (www.charityhikes.org.uk), by joining the challenge Facebook group (www.facebook.com/groups/ukcharityhikes) or by following me on Twitter (www.twitter.com/charityhikes).[/p][p]Oxford Hospitals Charity[/p][p]Oxford Hospitals Charity helps to transform care - funding the best medical equipment, research, training and facilities for their patients and staff.[/p][p]Although they aren’t a huge charity, they have a big impact – and that’s because they keep things local and work very closely with their clinical colleagues to understand how they can really make a difference.[/p][p]In fact, nearly every ward and department across all of their hospitals has felt the positive impact of donations, fundraising and gifts in Wills - all thanks to thoughtful and generous individuals who want to make a difference in their local community.[/p][p]Donations also helped create the Cancer and Heart Centres in Oxford and the Brodey Cancer Centre at the Horton General, as well as the Oxford Children's Hospital.[/p][p]They fund the very latest medical equipment, innovative research and specialist medical training. Donations also transform the hospital environment for their patients and dedicated staff - making wards and hospital spaces more welcoming and comfortable.[/p][p]From the small things, like providing quality reclining chairs for cancer patients having lengthy chemotherapy, to larger projects, such as funding computerised surgical equipment to help their talented surgeons with the most complicated of operations, this is your local charity supporting your local hospitals.[/p][p]With your vital support they can continue to transform the hospitals that care for you and your loved ones.[/p][p]You can donate to this campaign in aid of Oxford Hospitals Charity between 25th February 2021 and 31st January 2022, and anything you can donate will give invaluable support to allow the charity to continue their work.[/p][p]If you would prefer to send a cheque to the charity, you can write to them at the following address - please do include a cover note telling them your donation is as a result of my hiking challenge:[/p][p]Oxford Hospitals Charity, Unipart House, Garsington Road, Oxford, OX4 2PG[/p]
