Team story

[p]**UPDATE: 26TH AUGUST** [/p][p]So near yet so far. [/p][p]Having survived the dire weather that was thrown at us on Newcastle to London 24hr (rained from 2pm until 7am), my left knee finally gave out after about 200 miles. Limped slowly to the end of the 5th stage and on the advice of the medical team sat stage 6 out. Tried to get back on the bike at the start of the final stage and couldn't even turn the pedals without shooting pains in my knee so had to pull out. [/p][p]Gutted not to finish but looking on the bright side 217 miles in 12 hours riding time is the longest continuous ride I've ever done. Kept up with the fast guys at the front and was absolutely nailing it until the knee problems started [/p][p]http://www.strava.com/activities/77362808[/p][p]Both of us very proud what we managed to achieve this year and looking forward to the next stupid cycling challenge :)[/p][p]**UPDATE: 8TH JULY** [/p][p]Well we did it. The weather turned and touched 40C at times during the ride but Nikki & I made it to Paris. We finished in 24h07 but there was a 25-30 minute delay in Nikki's bike getting to the last stage so we're counting that as a sub-24 hour time :) [/p][p]We've raised just over £1.7k so far with company matched contributions to come on top of that. Thank you to everyone that sponsored us so far. Now on to Newcastle for me..... [/p][p][/p][p]Our challenge[/p][p]Nikki [/p][p]In 2010, Gethin tackled the first London to Paris in 24 hours.  Since then I've got into road cycling as well and because I've heard so much about this great event from him, I decided to have a go at it myself this year.  [/p][p]I'll be part of a big team from PwC and i'm going to do the ride as a team with Gethin, aiming to complete 5 of the 8 stages, which means I'll be riding about 175 miles out of a total 280 as my team-mate and me try to reach Paris in 24 hours or less.[/p][p]Gethin[/p][p]I've not cycled as much as I should have done in the last couple of years and I figure there's nothing like a big challenge to kick you up the **** :) [lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt]That's why I've signed up for both L2P24 and the first ever RideUK24 event.  Once I get over Paris, I'll be in Newcastle on August Bank Holiday weekend and attempting to ride all 300 miles of the ride to London.[/p][p]This is a massive step up in distance for me and will mean cycling for around 20 out of 24 hours - it's a scary challenge but I'm looking forward to it in a masochistic way![/p][p]Our charity: SCOPE[/p][p]For both events, our chosen charity is SCOPE, the charity that helps people with Cerebral Palsy to try lead the same kind of life as non-disabled people.  It's a great charity and having been involved with them since doing the original L2P24 I've seen some of the great work they do. [/p][p]Any donations would be appreciated, no matter how large or small.  We've set an ambitious fundraising target, but we're giving up most of 2013 to train for this, so we hope our pain is worth some of your money. [/p][p]Thanks for your support [/p][p]Nikki & Gethin [/p][p][/p]
