My story

[p]Thanks for visiting my page. I have never run for so much as a bus since I left school, but have always admired those who prepared for and ran a marathon. I have to admit to finding it much more difficult than I had imagined, since I had thought I had put in the hard graft in preparation. Indeed, it took an hour longer than I had hoped. But, whilst I didn’t, as so many of you had wished, enjoy the experience, I was awestruck. For 26.2 miles, the crowds were four deep on either side, shouting your name, whistling, clapping, beating drums, playing bagpipes, whilst you tread your path amongst thousands of runners, it seems all of them touched by some event, often I am sure tragic, that had inspired them to run a Marathon. And I hate crowds!! But it was absolutely incredible. [/p][p]So thank you for your generosity, whether named or anonymous. [/p][p]I have run on behalf of international development charity Motivation, which was established by David Constantine, who in 1982, at the age of 21, broke his neck at C4/5. Ten years later he established this amazing charity which has just passed its 25th year of operation. As David can not run a marathon, I wanted to do this for him.[/p][p]This will be in support of their new Ready, Willing and Able appeal – which aims to unlock the potential of disabled people in developing countries. Individuals like Francis, whose photo is below. He sustained a serious spinal cord injury when he fell from a roof while working as a carpenter. Unable to walk he became trapped in his home and was shunned by his community. He felt worthless and a burden on those around him. Motivation stepped in and ensured he received a wheelchair suitable for his environment and provided training that gave him back the skills, knowledge and confidence to take back control of his life. He is now back working as a carpenter, has re-opened his workshop and has employed two people for his growing business. [/p][p] His wheelchair cost just £140 and a day’s training was £88. You can help more people like Francis by sponsoring me in my running efforts next April. And if you donate before the 3rd March 2018, the UK government will match your donation pound for pound, enabling Motivation’s appeal to reach twice as many people.[/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]
