[p]Hi there, thanks so much for coming to my page.[/p][p]In honour of those fighting Dementia and those who stand by their side, I am fundraising and running the London Marathon 2019. Dementia, and Alzheimer's in particular is the big fat forgetful elephant in the sitting room of life. Like most of you reading this, it has wandered through my family tree, mercilessly stripping dignity from those who deserve the most respect as they move into their old age. Denial of its existence is no longer an option. Pity from afar is useless to those who are today nursing their husband, wife, parent or grandparent. [/p][p]Now, I know this isn't my first marathon, but this will be a run like no other. I will be running the marathon dressed as a full sized Postbox in honour of my Uncle John McAlea who is currently fighting Alzheimer's with my Aunty Una by his side. John spent his working life in Belfast as a Postman and always had a larger than life personality. I have chosen a larger than life costume to match! I am also running in memory of my wonderful Gran, Mary Donnelly who despite suffering from Alzheimer's for many years, never lost her kind, caring attitude and love for her large family.[/p][p]Also, it's not just as simple as making my way around the 26.2 miles of the London marathon course, waving at kids and dodging first class mail. I will also be aiming to break the Guinness World Record for 'fastest marathon as a postbox' which is currently just over 3 Hours 40 minutes. With your support, along with weeks of looking ridiculous while running around Dublin and Belfast, I want to help remove the stigma of Dementia and Alzheimer's, raise as much money as I can to support those who support us and help spread the word about what we can actually do, here and now, today, to prevent us getting this awful disease. (For example, did you know that 45 mins of light exercise a day can reduce the chance of Dementia by 38%)[/p][p]Through this page you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.
I really REALLY appreciate all your support and thank you for any donation, big or small.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Matthew [/p]
