My story

[p]Thank you for your donation, it really does propel me up those mountains all the quicker! [/p][p]I'm preparing for my toughest solo challenge to date, I'm running the 400+ mile Three Peaks Challenge from Ben Nevis in Scotland, up and over Scafell Pike in the Lake District, all the way to Snowdon in Wales. And I'll be climbing up, down and in-between every mountain that stands in my way on route. To make it even harder, I have less than 2 weeks to complete it! That means running 30-40 miles every day, rain or shine, day or night. I have to contend with long periods on my own, inhospitable terrain and weather, dangerous roads, and the punishing impact on my body. I've run multiple consecutive marathons in the past, but I've never experienced anything like this; It's going to be brutal. [/p][p]Why? Well, my amazing wife and I lost our son under tragic circumstances late on in pregnancy, and several unexplained miscarriages followed that. Nothing could have prepared us for such a profound and devastating loss, and it had a huge impact on our lives. This came at a time when everyone around us seemed to be starting families of their own while we secretly struggled on, it was extremely difficult for us. I have been a pilot in the RAF for over 10 years, and I would consider myself to be a resilient person, but I was completely blindsided and struggled for some time. It's a taboo subject and many suffer in silence like we did, but 1 in 4 pregnancies will end in miscarriage. That's a devastating statistic for mental wellbeing and we should all be more aware of this. [/p][p]So, I'm raising money for two charities who were on hand in our hour of need. The Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund (RAFBF) who help serving and retired RAF personnel and their families; and Tommy’s, a charity that funds research into miscarriages, stillbirth, and premature birth. [/p][p]Your support really means a lot.[/p][p][br][/p]
