My story

[p]"May I every day in every way, strive to leave the world slightly better than when I entered it" (CK Seet, my grandfather, quoting Father Sumangalo, Malacca 1961)[/p][p]Eve Coles, founder of grassroots charity Club Rafiki has been doing just that. Working alongside Rose Muhoro, Headteacher of the Nanyuki Prep School Kenya, Club Rafiki works to ensure orphans and other disadvantaged children are offered the opportunity of a future.[/p][p]Simply, £3.50 educates a child for one week, £14 educates a child for one month, £3.00 feeds a child for one week, £8 puts a pair of shoes on a child's feet, £12 buys a school uniform for a child, £2 can buy exercise books, £3 can buy a school text book. Not only that but becoming a pen-pal to learn more about the differences in culture is encouraged; and Eve regularly brings a group of volunteers to Kenya to help with the hands-on building and contribute to the education and experiences of the children.[/p][p]Our choice of Club Rafiki is because my mother who passed away in February 2018 was a teacher supporting special education. She wrote in her dissertation " All children have basic needs which must be reasonably met if they are to grow up into mature adults...they need experiences and relationships that help to build inside them a feeling that they are lovable and valued...They need to feel significant and worthwhile...that their worth is recognised." Neither she, nor my dad aspired to "leave a legacy", but the opportunities that they have given me which I - with the support of Dave (and, hopefully, you!) - can start to repay means we will be able to gift a future.[/p]

Good luck with the training as I think this is harder and requires more dedication than the event itself.
