My story

[p]Right, gulp! I have put off doing this page as once it goes live it means i am actually going to run the marathon! There is no going back. I am and I will run 26.2 miles, but with your help![/p][p][span=text-decoration: underline;]Firstly, why the eye?[/span][/p][p]As many of you know, in 2015 I was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer. Occular melanoma, or eye cancer to you and I. it was picked up by accident at a local opticians. When I was first diagnosed I did what any other sane person would do and I googled it. Big mistake. There are only approxiamtely 600 cases of eye cancer  diagnosed each year. Unfortunately, around half of those cases will go on to develop metastatic spread to the liver. It is then terminal. Crap hey?  So that is why I have decided to run for an eye  cancer charity. But not just any eye cancer charity. Ocumeluk.[/p][p][span=text-decoration: underline;]Ocumeluk[/span][/p][p]Ocumeluk were one of the fist sites I came across in those early days when I was trying to quench my thirst for information. They are a small registered charity that is run by eye cancer patients and their families. They provide support, raise awareness amongst the public and work closely with mediical professions so all knowledge is up to date. They provide a website, run an invaluable online support group, organise an annual eye patch day and arrange annual conferences where medical professions and patients have a chance to get together to listen to the latest advances in treatments. For me? They help take away the fear.[/p][p]I have decided to raise money by running for them. I have found that running is the only thing that helps me to cope with the diagnosis and it helps me to manage mentally when I have to play the marvellous game of Russian roulette. This is where I enter an MRI machine to be told whether or not the cancer has spread. I play this game every 6 months and it comes around far too quickly.[/p][p][span=text-decoration: underline;]Your help[/span][/p][p]I know that most of you have already helped me to secure this charity place, but I'm back to beg again. I had over 1,300 people likes for my cringey video, if every one of you  wonderful 1,300 people sponsored me a fiver, that would come in at £6500!!!  Crazy hey? Impossible? Hell no! But this is where I need your help. For every one of you that is going to sponsor me to help me get over that line and keep me mentally sane, well as sane as I can be, whilst  raising cash and awareness for eye cancer, I need you to share this page. Sponsor and share so that my 5 friends can grow to many more! Oh and all go and get your eyes checked.[/p][p][span=text-decoration: underline;]My blog[/span][/p][p]You can follow my blog on where I will keep you updated on my running and hospital checks. [/p][p]Thank you all, you lovely generous lot.[/p][p]Ruth xxxx[/p][p][/p]
