My story

[p]This page in support of Sibs, the UK charity supporting siblings of disabled people of which I'm a trustee. Sibs helps people who play a unique and often overlooked role in the lives of disabled people. [/p][p]My youngest sister Raana, who has the learning disability fragile X syndrome, loves making. Her mosaic (pictured above and below) reflects what people can achieve when they're free to pursue their interests and have support to enable their creativity to flourish. Raana created the 60x60cm varnished collage at a specialist college. Inspired by nature, she designed the maze-like pattern, sourced and sorted photographs, magazine cuttings and coloured paper and tore them into hundreds of tiny pieces. Close up, the tiles show a variety of materials and objects including flowers, pebbles, stone and grass.[/p][p]'Mosaic' was chosen by Dr Hannah Morgan to represent Lancaster University's Centre for Disability Research conference in 2018 (the family's still bursting with pride). [/p][p]Recently, I included the piece in Raana's Happy Art Gallery, an online collection of images featuring arts and crafts by learning disabled people and their families. The gallery was my way of keeping in touch with my sister while she's in lockdown in supported housing, along with sending her video messages featuring her artwork (check out the video below).[/p][p]I've got a limited number of square 15cm x 15cm postcards available to send within the UK.[/p][p]INFO:[/p][p]* you can donate to Sibs without receiving a card, which would be amazing and the charity will then be able to claim Gift Aid[/p][p]* if you'd like a card, the suggested amount's £3.00 per card - do give what you can, more if you're able [/p][p]* if you'd like a card, PLEASE tick the box 'Share my name and email with the fundraiser' so I can contact you and get a postal address and PLEASE also email me saba@sabasalman.com so I can double check (I'm a stickler for detail!)[/p][p]* whether or not you'd like a card, please do drop me a line if you've donated: saba@sabasalman.com or @Saba_Salman Many donations these days are anonymous and I'd love to say a private thank you :)[/p][p] [/p][vmgvideo class="ql-video" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/AnKZTLjz8D8?showinfo=0&rel=0&iv_load_policy=3"][/vmgvideo][p][br][/p][p][br][/p]
