My story

[p]Firstly, thank you for taking the time to visit my Virgin Money Giving page and read my story![/p][p]On the 26th April 2020 I will be taking part in the London Marathon in order to raise funds and awareness for Relate Chesterfield and North Derbyshire. All money raised will help to provide young people from 11-18 years of age with counselling support for issues such as mental health, anxiety, depression, bereavement and bullying.[/p][p]Relate Chesterfield and North Derbyshire.[/p][p]The charity has been established for 40 years in the local area and despite the support it provides young people, it is extremely underfunded and although all contributions go a long way to support those in need, i would like to do more.[/p][p]Currently children have to travel long distances in order to get the counselling they need, making it out of reach for most families. Relate provides young people from disadvantaged backgrounds with free and quick access to counselling with no waiting list, therefore removing obstacles and confronting issues before it is too late.[/p][p]The Statistics[/p][p]-1 in 8 children have a diagnosable mental health disorder – that’s roughly 3 children in every classroom.[/p][p]-1 in 6 young people aged 16-24 has symptoms of a common mental disorder such as depression or an anxiety disorder.[/p][p]-Half of all mental health problems manifest by the age of 14, with 75% by age 24.[/p][p]-In 2017, suicide was the most common cause of death for both boys (16.2% of all deaths) and girls (13.3%) aged between 5 and 19.[/p][p]-Nearly half of 17-19 year olds with a diagnosable mental health disorder has self-harmed or attempted suicide at some point, rising to 52.7% for young women.[/p][p]I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]
