My story

[p]Thank you for visiting my fundraising page for MH Cycle 2018. I will be cycling 100 miles in the Prudential Ride London on 29 July. [/p][p]This will be in aid of the McPin Foundation, a mental health research charity. If you are able to, please sponsor me![/p][p]Mental health is something that is close to me. I have been struggling with depression for a few years and I know the issues it can bring, both within yourself but also put upon you by others; the stigma surrounding mental illness, issues surrounding accessing services and, for many mental health conditions, the lack of research. I am doing a lot of work in the mental health field, including my a new campaign, Support For Us, looking at the mental health services for young people, being a young champion for Time to Change and through fundraising for the Mcpin Foundation. [/p][p]Due to time restraints last year, I only managed to cycle 50 miles in the Prudential Ride London, but this year I am determined to do the full 100 miles. [/p][p]I intended on cycling from from Amsterdam to London, but sadly I don’t think it will be possible this year. I am determined though to do a longer cycle next year for charity too![/p][p]I’m riding for McPin because their life-saving research puts the voices of people with lived experience of mental health problems at the heart of mental health research, to ensure that it is focused on the issues that really matter to people. By transforming mental health research, McPin aims to improve people’s mental health in communities everywhere.[/p][p]The funds I raise from RideLondon will go directly to research into suicide prevention. Over 6,500 people die from suicide each year in the UK and the numbers are increasing. Many more people suffer from suicidal thoughts or self-harm. Hundreds of thousands of people lose friends or family. We are determined to help fund research that will save and improve lives. You can read more about the latest projects McPin has funded on their website, http://www.mcpin.org.[/p][p] [/p][p]I am hugely grateful for your kind support. Thank You![/p][p] [/p][p]For more information on the work I am doing and to keep up to dates with my cycling updates, please follow my social media accounts listed below.[/p][p] [/p][p]Facebook: www.facebook.com/sambarakat4[/p][p]Twitter: @Sambarakat4[/p][p]Twitter (campaign- Support for Us): @Support4us[/p][p]Website: www.sambarakat.com[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p]
