My story

[p]Me. [/p][p]April 26th, 2020. [/p][p]The Virgin Money London Marathon. [/p][p]26.2 miles. [/p][p]Why? Well, there’s the obvious incentive of trying to run off the beer belly I’ve grown and being part of the brilliant occasion the London Marathon is but, my main goal is to raise funds and awareness for what I believe to be an amazing cause. Trust Links are a local charity, based in South East Essex, dedicated to caring and supporting the local community in their wellbeing, mental health needs and allowing the opportunity to develop new skills. Trust Links utilize the quiet and relaxing attributes of gardening, harvesting and horticulture to offer support and outreach for members in need, which, in my opinion, is an amazing initiative.[/p][p]I have been familiar with Trust Links and their cause for some time but a recent experience has left the charity permanently etched on me. I am currently the manager of a men’s Church football team, Leigh Road Baptist Church and had the privilege of meeting someone quite special. That someone was quiet and mostly kept himself to himself but absolutely loved playing football and had so much energy, the team and I would often be exhausted just watching him run. That someone took his life in September 2019. The team and I were and continue to be heartbroken that we will never see him again, but we will never forget him, he is constantly in our thoughts and we hold him in our prayers before we kickoff every game. It was at his funeral that I found out that he was a huge supporter of Trust Links and had been volunteering and more recently working for them. It’s my aim today and from now on to continue his efforts and do my upmost to encourage the message he was so passionate about. Trust Links may not be a nationwide charity but, they have people involved that care, people that are desperate to help and hold no judgement, if running the VMLM in their name will help then… 26.2 miles is just the start.[/p][p]Anything you can donate would be hugely appreciated![/p]
