My story

[p]Thank you for visiting my page. I'm taking on this incredible challenge and fundraising in support of Mind with my wonderful friend Fiona Johnson. [/p][p]The Why? [/p][p]One thing my family has struggled through is not talking, not telling people how they are really doing, hiding from what was really going on and not fully understanding what was happening until it spiralled out of control. [/p][p]For those that know me, I'm a talker (and a crier!), classic over-sharer, tell lots of people lots of things but this is what keeps my mind healthy. If I've talked about it or written it down, I'm no longer deeply thinking about it and my mind is clearer. It doesn't work for everyone, but it does for me. Find what works for you, and if you don't know ask someone to help, we don't know all the answers all of the time. [/p][p]It's about time everyone considered their mental health (or wellbeing) with the same respect as their physical health. Your mind is what controls your body, so surely it is the most important piece of the puzzle to look after? Don't be ashamed to talk about your mental health, even when it is good! [/p][p]People talk about their bodies, if they feel physically fit, overweight, pulled a muscle, got a cold etc. so why can't we talk about our minds? Why not say ... my mind is very busy, my heads not great today it's too negative or I feel brilliant my mind is super clear and organised this week. If we can make it an everyday thing that people are talking about, it will be easier for those suffering to talk up and receive the help they need. [/p][p]Everyone has a mind, everyone has mental health (or wellbeing if you prefer) so we can all talk about it![/p][p]The Trek...[/p][p]The lost city of Machu Picchu sits on the bucket list of many and with good reason; it’s simply breath-taking.[/p][p]Gruelling yet rewarding, the Trek to Machu Picchu challenge follows the spectacular and uncrowded Ancascocha trail, surrounded by snow-capped mountains, raging rivers and remote mountain communities. Supported by our experienced leader and guides, the hike is slow, allowing for acclimatisation to the altitude and the opportunity to enjoy the unique surrounds and traditional Peruvian culture. The aches and pains will vanish at the end of each day as our friendly porters and chefs make life as comfortable as possible.[/p][p]Exhaustion will turn to euphoria as you step through the Sun Gate to witness Machu Picchu for the first time, making the blood, sweat and tears all worthwhile, and leaving you with memories to last a lifetime. [/p][p]The Charity...[/p][p]Read more about Mind's services and what your money could do below.[/p][p]Who are Mind?[/p][p]We're Mind, the mental health charity. We believe no one should have to face a mental health problem alone. We're here for you. Today. Now. Whether you're stressed, depressed or in crisis. We'll listen, give support and advice, and fight your corner.[/p][p]We provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. We campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding. We won't give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect.[/p][p]Watch this short video to find out more?[/p][p]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPxHTZRwXX8[/p][p]I'm raising funds to support the important work Mind does and to allow them to continue to be there for everyone who needs them. Please donate if you can.[/p][p]This is what your donation could do:[/p][p]£10 could allow us to send essential information booklets about mental health to 40 people.[/p][p]£40 could pay for 28 people to campaign for change on our behalf.[/p][p]£70 could keep our online community, Elefriends, open and safe for two hours. [/p][p]£120 could offer a lifeline to eight people in desperate need of support from our Mind legal line.[/p][p]£200 could help us keep the Mind Infoline open for 1 hour, helping 35 people.[/p][p]£300 could support a young person bereaved by suicide to access 1:1 and group support. [/p][p]£550 could provide five people struggling with their mental health a place in a 10-week wellbeing group with team sports and cookery.[/p][p]Thank you for taking the time to visit my page and for donating. Your support is hugely appreciated.[/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to Mind. [/p][p]Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.[/p]
