My story

[p]The rally will start on September 30th September leaving St Austell, Cornwall on Sunday lunchtime and finishing in Gibraltar on Thursday 4th October and we will be taking in Morocco on the 5th.[/p][p]The only snag is that our car has to cost around a measly £500 to be entered in to the Banger Rally category. We will be driving on some of Europe’s finest and most scenic roads coaxing our chosen wreck to the finish point.[/p][p]Over £2000 worth of cash prize’s will be awarded to the teams scoring the most points in each of the daily tasks and the overall winner will also receive a suitable trophy![/p][p]We will be doing our best to raise as much money as we can for the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance. [/p][p]Please donate generously[/p][p]Thank you[/p][p]Simon and Kevin[/p][p][br][/p][p]Update....[/p][p]Thank you so much for the donations we have received so far.[/p][p] We have our banger! It’s a Volvo V70 with a very low mileage of just over 200,000 miles 1 careful owner from new, quite a few not so careful but we won’t worry about that and all for the bargain price of £100. Let’s hope it makes it! [/p][p]We will be modifying the car to make it stand out so more pics to follow.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Update...[/p][p]Two weeks to go and the car is ready! [/p][p]We will be out and about in it raising more money so look out for us.[/p][p]The car will be on display at the Clifton Upon Dunsmore village Fete on Saturday 15th September 12pm to 5pm. [/p][p]Update....[/p][p]Thank you so much for all the donations we have received so far.[/p][p]We raised another £120 at the Clifton Upon Dunsmore village Fete which was fantastic.[/p][p]We have now exceeded our £1000 target and we still have two weeks to go so we are raising the target to £1700 which is the average cost of one mission for the Air Ambulance. [/p][p]Saturday 29th September Rugby to St Austell[/p][p]First stage of our trip went well and we have arrived in St Austell for the pre rally party with only one problem, Kev’s trainer broke so we had to find an emergency pair - thank you sports direct! As we are only able to put limited photos on here check out the GIB or BUST Facebook page for pictures of all the fantastic cars they are amazing.[/p][p]Sunday 30th September St Austell to Plymouth[/p][p]Registration opened at 09:30 and we have been given our first set of challenges, Gib or Bust orange t-shirts and the details for the first campsite in Spain. All 200 cars are leaving in convoy at 1pm to head for the boat. Hundreds of people have lined the streets to see the cars head off and the some of the roads were blocked to let us all through. What an amazing experience! We were told there were challenges to do on the way, after reading through them we have just realised one of them is to video us doing a carpool karaoke, we could be in trouble![/p][p]Monday 1st October Santander to Salamanca [/p][p]With challenges still to complete we head off to Barcena Mayor ( said to be the oldest village in Cantabria ) situated in the Saja Reservation. Here we need to video ourselves doing a scene from Blackadder ??. Next challenge is to get a team photo on the Embalse de Aguilar Observation Point, after driving along the mountain roads with stunning views we arrived at the Observation Point to complete our challenge. Now off to the first campsite Camping Regio in Salamanca, here we will be able to hand in our quiz sheets and show the challenges we have completed and then we get the details of the next campsite and challenges to complete.[/p][p]Tuesday 2nd October Salamanca to Porto via the Douro Valley[/p][p]We set off early as it’s a long drive today through the mountains, we are heading for Sandeman in the Douro Valley to complete another challenge. The mountain pass was amazing with stunning views and scary roads. It was very high, narrow and with shear drops next to the roads the lack of barriers on the corners was very worrying! As we entered Portugal we had to get a photo of the welcome to Portugal sign, and a photo at the Sandeman. With our challenges complete we head off to the next campsite Camping Mira in Portugal where we can hand in our quiz sheets and show the challenges we have completed and get the details of the next campsite and challenges to complete. We are used to putting the tent up in the dark now.[/p][p]Wednesday 3rd October Porto to Lagos[/p][p]Early start again and we head off to complete our first challenge of the day, team photo in front of the Convector-de-Cristo. After climbing the steep cobbled steps we complete our first challenge and then set off to the next one, a team photo at Continental Europe’s most Western Point. Wow what amazing views from here. Our next challenge is to get a team photo at the Estorial race track, think we will be once more setting the tent up in the dark! All challenges completed we are off to the campsite Orbitur Valverde answering the 20 quiz questions on the way. Just made it in time (11pm) to hand in the sheets and get the next set of challenges.[/p][p]Thursday 4th October Lagos to Gibraltar [/p][p]With another long day ahead we set off early to complete the first challenge, photo of our car at the football stadium Estadio Algarve near Esteval. With our first challenge completed we head off to the next one, team photo in front of Castelo de Castro Marim. Another amazing place but with no time to look around we set off to the next challenge, team photo at El Rocío Huelva and act out a scene from a western. Wow this place is like going back in time. It’s a western village, no roads just sand, one of the highlights of the trip. On arrival we tied up our trusty steed to the wooden rails with our tow rope (didn’t want to look out of plcace) we managed to talk the owner of the only store to let us borrow cowboy hats, ponchos and a horses head so we could act out our western scene much to the amusement of the locals! Challenge complete we head off out of the village nearly getting stuck in the sand! Now off to Gibraltar, we need a team photo in front of the welcome to Gibraltar sign to complete our banger rally challenge. Another amazing place, airport runway goes across the road and pavement with RAF Gibraltar on site. Red London buses and red telephone boxes everywhere and Debenhams was a surprise. Tourists everywhere, it’s a very busy place. With all our challenges complete we head off to Marbella as this is the nearest campsite that can accommodate us all, at least it won’t be dark putting the tent up! Spoke to soon long story but we ended up putting the tent up at 3am! [/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p]
