My story

[p]PULL OUT THE STOPS![/p][p]Our organ at St Mellitus Church, in Tollington Park, is of unique historical and cultural value, as an instrument which was built to commemorate men associated with the Parish who went to fight in the First World War.[/p][p]The funded phase of The St Mellitus Organ Restoration Project - supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund - and the restoration of the organ is now complete, but you can still sponsor-a-pipe. Future donations will contribute to the legacy of this ‘king of instruments’, to remember the men who went to war and give the local community and wider public access to one of London’s finest organs.[/p][p]Would you like to dedicate an organ pipe to someone special? Is there someone you want to honour who has heroically carried on serving the community during the pandemic? Someone with something to celebrate? A new baby perhaps? Or in memory of someone amongst your family or friends who has very sadly died ?[/p][p]You can sponsor a pipe by making one of the following suggested donations:[/p][p]£5 [/p][p]£10[/p][p]£25[/p][p]£50[/p][p]£100[/p][p]£250[/p][p]£500[/p][p]Other: (please specify)...[/p][p]Please indicate if you would like to dedicate your pipe to someone special. [/p][p]To find out more, hear the organ, watch films about the restoration and the stories of the soldiers and see a recording of the live-streamed centenary concert visit:[/p]

Alan Edwards

This is to celebrate my Great Uncles Herbert & John Edwards, who are both listed on St Mellitus' memorial panels. They and their brothers, Stanley & Leonard, all fought in WW1. All came home apart from Herbert who was killed in Ypres, France in Dec 1915.

David and Aileen Norton

In memory of Arthur Norton, Arthur Weeden and all the soldiers whose sacrifices are commemorated by the organ. More than a century on from the First World War it has been a privilege to learn a little of your stories.
