My story

[p]Hi everyone,[/p] [p]Some may say I’m crazy, but I am taking on the HUGE challenge of running the London Marathon on Sunday 26[sup]th[/sup] April- 26.2 miles of pain![/p] [p]After what has been a terrible start to this year, I know all of my friends and family will get behind me to support and help others, especially as we all know life is so short.[/p] [p]I am raising as much money as possible for the Teenage Cancer Trust, one very close to my heart. At the age of 15 I was diagnosed with testicular cancer. As you can imagine it was one of the worst experiences of my life. Throughout my treatment from the age of 15 to 17 I had several sessions of chemotherapy, pioneering high dosage chemotherapy and many many rounds of surgery to remove tumours from my lungs and lymph nodes. [/p][p]I beat cancer the first time but at the age of 25, as I was enjoying life- keeping fit, happy & positive- everything came to a complete standstill as my cancer resurfaced it’s ugly head. Once again I had to be admitted to hospital to go through extensive treatment to fight this battle.[/p] [p]My story is a long one, and thanks to the support I received as a teenager & as a young man suffering with cancer, I survived. I’m now 33, young, fit & healthy (well….maybe not so young!). These charities do so much to help people like me, so I am immensely proud to give something back to help others.[/p] [p]Around seven young people aged between 13 and 24 are diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK. They need expert treatment and support from the moment they hear the word ‘cancer’, & the Teenage Cancer Trust is the only charity dedicated to making this happen.[/p] [p]Whether you sponsor me with £1 or £100, it all goes to an amazing cause and I am very grateful for your kind donation. If only this was a challenge to drink 26.2 pints, that would maybe be a little easier ;)[/p] [p]Wish me luck![/p] [p]Martyn[/p]
