My story

[p]Thankyou for taking the time to visit my money-giving page. [/p][p]I'm Steve McHugh, Co Chairman of The Paul Lavelle Foundation and on the 15th of July 2021 I will be taking on the biggest challenge of my life so far . I will attempt to complete the Enduroman Arch2Arc Solo Challenge. [/p][p]Although this is a solo challenge, it's going to take all help and support from tri4life members, Chris Shaw and The Red Cap swimming group and all the Paul Lavelle Foundation's swimming, running and cycling Groups .[/p][p]The Enduroman Arch 2 Arc challenge is a journey that connects two of the world's most beautiful cities by running, swimming and cycling. [/p][p]The clock begins ticking from Marble Arch in London and doesn't stop until the Arc de Triomphe in Paris many hours later. [/p][p]Only 45 athletes have successfully completed the challenge.[/p][p]The Run - 87 miles from Marble Arch in London to Dover[/p][p]The Swim - The English Channel![/p][p]The Bike - 181 miles from Calais to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.[/p][p]I am taking on the challenge to fundraise for 3 amazing local Charities.[/p][p]Firstly, I will be raising funds for our very own Charity, The Paul Lavelle Foundation. The PLF has grown significantly in the last 2 years and we are now actively supporting male victims and survivors of domestic abuse on a weekly basis through our frontline service.[/p][p]Sadly, as a result of COVID-19 and lockdown, domestic abuse has risen significantly and is a concerning world wide issue. The PLF has been developing it's services to be able to deliver support during the COVID-19 period and is ready to upscale the service once the full impact of the aftermath of the pandemic and lockdown is upon us. [/p][p]In addition to our core service we also run wellbeing activity groups for all, in the community running, cycling and swimming groups run weekly and are set to encourage health and wellbeing through fitness and outdoor activity, as well as raising aspirations for all involved.[/p][p]We deliver healthy relationship education for children and young people in schools and colleges as well as for young people who have been subjected to abusive family environments.[/p][p]We have been fortunate enough to be able to create a new PLF community Hub to be operational from the beginning of March 2021. This new larger fit for purpose space will enable us to deliver more varied activities such as a male domestic abuse Drop-In, peer support groups as well as being able to extend our opening hours. [/p][p]Any funds raised will go towards supporting the running of the new Hub and the activities that will be delivered from there.[/p][p]Another 2 local charities I wish to support for all the wonderful work they do, are Claire House Children's Hospice and Maggie's Centre.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Claire House Children’s Hospice helps seriously and terminally ill children live life to the full by creating wonderful experiences and bringing back a sense of normality to family life.[/p][p]By providing specialist nursing care and emotional support they help families smile again when life couldn’t get any tougher.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Maggie's Centre Merseyside helps people take back control when cancer turns life upside down, with professional support for anything from treatment side effects to money worries. All their support is free.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Any support you are willing to offer with fund raising, will not only benefit these wonderful charities, but will spur me on to complete this once in a lifetime, grueling challenge![/p][p]Many thanks![/p][p]Steve [/p]
