My story

[p]Following the Great North Run last year and the overwhelming support and money raised for M&N RR Rescue I have decided to challenge myself again......although not as far as the GNR this 10k takes in quite a number of hills that will definitely put me through my paces![/p][p]This race and the driving force behind it is the true angel and greatly missed [/p][p]HENRY[/p][p]For those of you that did not manage to follow his story.......[/p][p][br][/p][p]Henry[/p][p]What can we say about Henry? We love them all but every now and then one comes a long who is just that bit extra special. They touch your heart, get under your skin and seem warm every fibre of your being with their soul - that, was Henry. Although only a relatively young dog in what should have been his prime, Henry looked like an old man. His health was poor and when we got him to the kennels the vet confirmed the severity of his heart condition and gave us the news that he could have anything from 1 day to 1 year to live. A really sorry state of affairs, but what were we to do? Should we give up on him and cut our losses? The life he had lived had not been one he deserved and now, with Rescue, we had the chance to make his final days, however long, the ones he SHOULD have enjoyed from the start. The search was on to find the perfect family to give him those glorious last love-filled days. A swathe of the kindest people stepped up and in only a few days the most incredible couple was selected as “the ones” to be his guardians, even though they were well aware of the sure heartbreak that would eventually follow. The difference in Henry was incredible. His health seemed to turn on its head and his breathing became easier as his enthusiasm for life grew. His eyes shone, his spark returned and that tail never stopped wagging. He wrapped them round his paw in the blink of an eye and enjoyed all the comforts of home; blankets, sofas, radiators, hand fed scrummy food and he was allowed to indulge his love of mashed potato! Henry was happy. He was loved and adored and squeezed a lifetime of affection into what sadly was just 10 days with his new family before his condition suddenly deteriorated. The decision we all hoped would be many months off was suddenly at our door to be made - a decision that could not be ignored and one that the family refused to shy away from. In just 10 days, they had fallen head-over-heels, hopelessly in love with our golden boy, just as we did. They refused to see him suffer and stayed with him till the very end. As their hearts broke, Henry’s soared high to the Bridge where he would never again feel pain but always know how special he was and just how much so many people loved him. They are all special .... but some are more special than others.[/p][p]After seeing first hand just how much M&N RR Rescue do for our precious breed I choose yet again for this to be my charity to help this year??[/p][p]RIP HENRY ??[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p]
