My story

[p]Carole Blake was the President of The Book Trade Charity BTBS for many years. She was integral to so much of the success and growth of the charity and, even when she stood down, she was pulled back to help the charity time and time again. [/p][p]Sadly we lost our dear friend Carole in October 2016. The co-founder of Blake Friedmann Literary Agency, the author of From Pitch to Publication and Literary Agent Extra-ordinaire, she left behind many authors, friends and colleagues. Hardly a day goes by without someone coming up with a Carole memory, be it about her tough negotiation skills or her passions for everything from books, dolls houses, food, gin, jewellery and shoes or the way she looked at you over the top of her glasses. [/p][p]The Book Trade Charity BTBS are now building a number of new flats at their Whetstone address to help new entrants into the book trade and are running a 'Buy a Brick' Naming Scheme, to help support the cost of the multi-million pound project.[/p][p]The aim of the Carole Blake Fundraiser is to bring her many authors, friends and colleagues together and raise £1000 for BTBS, so that Carole's name is on a brick at Whetstone. [/p][p]To reach our target we are;- [/p][p]1.Hosting a Carole's Cocktail Evening on Zoom for up to 100 people on Wednesday, 28th October 2020 from 19:00 to 21:30 hours BST. You can participate by making a donation of your choosing. The recommended donation is £10. Once you've donated, the thank you email will have details of the Zoom link. (In case of any issues, please email suzanne@bookcareers.com).[/p][p]2.Holding a number of auctions on Ebay with all funds going directly to BTBS. A small number of friends and colleagues have donated items for us to auction. One of the first to donate was Peter James, who has donated a signed copy of his latest bestseller, I FOLLOW YOU. New auction items will be added up to 28th October and can be found here. https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/btbscarolefundraiser [/p][p]3.Accepting donations of any size from anyone who wants to ensure that Carole's name is remembered this way. [/p][p]If we are fortunate to raise more than £1000 in Carole's name, any surplus will go to The Book Trade Charity BTBS for them to use as they wish. 2020 has been the year where the charity has been needed more than ever in order to support those within the book trade. Lovely to add another Book Trade Charity brick this way, for a great BTBS champion - & so much more. I miss Carole every day - especially now, in what would be Frankfurt season. What fun we had! I look forward to popping in to raise a glass tonight. xx

Carole's name on a brick! I never imagined I'd see the day when I'd donate toward that, but then I never imagined a day when Carole wouldn't be with us. As so often, I'm remembering so many 'truly wonderful' times which Suzanne and I spent with Carole.
