My story

[p]On 18th December 2019, dad was diagnosed with myeloma, a rare blood cancer that has no cure. By February 2020, he had also been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. Four weeks later, the pandemic kicked in and so began the most horrendous year.[/p][p]After a ten-day hospital stay in April - during which we couldn't visit because of Covid and feared we would never see him again - we were told dad only had a few months left.[/p][p]Both diseases are very cruel ones and they ravaged him. He stood no chance despite being the fittest person we know, having climbed every mountain in the Lake District several times over. [/p][p]On 29th December 2020, after months of constant pain caused by myeloma in his spine, ribs and elsewhere and confusion from the multitude of drugs and a symptom of Parkinson's Disease, dad died in mum's arms at their home in the Lake District.[/p][p]I feel so lucky to have had such an incredibly loving dad who was always there for me, Nigel, Harry and Milly. We all have so many amazing memories of him that we will cherish forever and whilst he has left a gaping hole in our lives, his legacy will live on for many years to come.[/p][p]It's for dad that we have decided to form Team Family Davies and each take on a challenge to raise money for two charities close to our hearts. Firstly, for Myeloma UK, a small charity that is carrying out much needed research to try and find a cure for dad's cancer. [/p][p]We are also raising money for St John's Hospice in Lancaster, who we will be forever indebted to for arranging around the clock care at home in dad's final few weeks. Without their kindness, we would never have been able to spend time with dad and tell him how much he meant to us all. [/p][p]For our challenges, I am taking on my first ever running trail in June - 28k across dad's beloved Lake District fells (I will worry about the ridiculously hard terrain on the day itself!). I will then be handing the family baton over to the stars of our team challenges, Harry and Milly, who are going to swim a mile and embark on a 25k bike ride respectively during the summer holidays. Finally, Nigel is going to take part in his first ever half marathon in October.[/p][p]If you could make any donation towards our Team Family Davies challenges, it would be very much appreciated.
