My story

[p]In September 2014 one of our son’s close friends was diagnosed with Gama Delta T-Cell Lymphoma; a rare and aggressive form of cancer. Sadly after an amazing fight Jak lost his battle on 2nd February 2015, aged 15.  [/p][p]Ailsa and I will be running the TCS New York City Marathon on 1[sup]st[/sup] November 2015 in aid of Team Jak Foundation, a charity with a clear goal to help others going through similar ordeals. I vowed I would never run another marathon and Ailsa is injured following the London Marathon, however Jak’s bravery has been humbling, and the least we can do is commit some jet fuel and blisters if it helps others.[/p][p]All Ailsa and I ask is for you to dig deep (again, I know!) and sponsor us. [/p][p]Team Jak have raised an astonishing £100,000 for Edinburgh Sick Kids Friends Foundation, Children in Need, Clic Sargent and Lymphoma and Leukemia Research. More than £60,000 was raised in the three weeks before Jak died.[/p][p]More recently, Jak has been recognised as the Young Scot of 2015, his family receiving an emotional standing ovation as they accepted the honour at a star-studded ceremony in Edinburgh’s Usher Hall. As well as the top honour, Jak was also named the Young Hero winner.[/p][p]Jak’s passing will not be in vain though as he set out clear requests to help others through “Jak's Den”.  Jak wanted a Purpose built building– JAK’S DEN to include the following and to be used for various purposes to bring the community together not only for Cancer patients and their families but for any children and teens of West Lothian and beyond.[/p][ul][li]Counselling rooms – for siblings/families affected by Cancer and also counselling for any purpose with fully trained child counsellors[/li][li]Loud room for those who just want to go and scream shout or make a noise[/li][li]Large Hall for Musical Theatre Classes & Sports Classes[/li][li]Music and Drama Rooms/Multipurpose rooms for Therapy sessions and meetings[/li][li]Neutropenic Café – footy & fast car theme[/li][li]Ordinary Café-Music Theme[/li][li]Outdoor footy goals, music sensory garden, quad bike tracks[/li][li]Claw machine with sweeties[/li][/ul][p]The patron of the charity is Neil Alexander, Hearts and former Rangers goalkeeper. He struck up an amazing friendship with Jak during his final months.[/p][p]To find out more about Jak's Den and how you can get involved please go to www.teamjak.co.uk.[/p][p]We really appreciate whatever you can give to support this very worthy cause.[/p][p]Thanks[/p][p]Iain and Ailsa[/p]
