Team story

[p]We are a team of students, staff and alumni within the Cathedrals Group of Universities, a group of 16 different universities in the UK. We are running to support Article 26, a project of the Helena Kennedy Foundation.[/p][p]Please support the Article 26 project and our runners by sponsoring our team. The event takes place Mash March Madness: 10k Forrest Trail Race at Cannock Chase Saturday 28[sup]th[/sup] March, Race time starting at 11.00am[/p][p]Article 26 enables disadvantaged students to continue with their education and attend University. Article 26 of the Declaration of Human Rights states that everyone has the right to education and specifies that higher education should be equally accessible on the basis of merit. The project supports students who are seeking sanctuary in the UK, or have Discretionary Leave to Remain as the result of an asylum claim. Both of these groups of students are classed as international students by Universities, which means that their fees are much, much more than home students. Yet both groups of students are also unable to access student finance and students seeking sanctuary are not allowed to work. This makes attending University a seemingly impossible dream.[/p][p]Article 26 students are seizing every opportunity to transform their lives through education. We support these students to complete their degree and provide the particular support that they need. We also help them with books and travel. Without this extra support, our students could not complete their degrees. With the support of Article 26 our students are excelling and are all committed to helping others and contributing to UK society once they graduate. Our team of runners have volunteered to support the work of Article 26 and are running to raise funds for the project, supporting our work and our committed and hard-working students.[/p][p] [/p]
