My story

[p]As most of you already know, I set myself the challenge of running the 2018 London Marathon in April this year, to raise money for the Guide Dogs Association. However I was absolutely devastated to become very unwell a few days before the event, and was forced to withdraw my place. The support around this time has been overwhelming, and I’m so grateful for everyone’s kindness. So what now? [/p][p]I figured if I missed out on running one marathon, I’d set myself the a revised challenge of running two! So once I am fully recovered, I will be lacing up my trainers again to tackle the Yorkshire Marathon in October this year, and then re-face the London Marathon in April 2019. And given that I have a whole unexpected year, I’ve upped my fundraising target to £4,000. [/p][p]This time round I already know how gruelling the training is going to be, particularly to keep it up for a whole year, but it has never been more important to me to complete this challenge. All the money I have already raised is safely with the Guide Dogs (included on this new page under offline donations), and they have deferred my place for London for me. So here’s to another 12 months of getting lost on long runs, falling down manholes, losing all my toenails, and only being able to walk down stairs backwards! Thank you everyone for your continued support and enthusiasm. Here’s a little bit about why I chose to fundraise for the Guide Dogs Association:[/p][p][/p][p]“As a student I had the chance to visit the breeding centre in Leamington, and we learnt a lot more about exactly what is involved in producing and caring for a guide dog through its life. I was blown away by the whole process, and the fact that this charity receives absolutely no government funding. The Guide Dog Association take full financial responsibility for every dog, for its entire life, meaning that the opportunity to own a Guide dog will never be affected by an owners financial situation. Now, as a practicing veterinary surgeon, I've seen first hand the amazing work this charity does, and the difference it makes to people's lives. I think it is estimated that each dog costs approximately £50,000 throughout its life, or £5 each day. So many professionals and volunteers are involved in producing a single working dog, from the breeding program, to whelping, to puppy walkers, trainers, vets and the rest of the support network.”[/p][p][br][/p][p]All my love,[/p][p]Nat xxx[/p]
