Team story

[lt]p class="p1"[gt]Official Site - www.threepeakszero.com[/p][lt]p class="p1"[gt][lt]span class="s1"[gt]Climate Change sceptics are thankfully becoming increasingly rare. Many people now believe in the need for a sustainable future but the stigma attached to owning an electric vehicle and the associated range anxiety is still a major concern that hinders their uptake. The Three Peaks Zero challenge has been designed to both raise the profile of sustainable transport and provide a reality check for people who believe an electric car can’t travel long distances.[lt]/span[gt][/p] [lt]p class="p1"[gt][lt]span class="s1"[gt]The traditional National Three Peaks Challenge involves a race against the clock to climb the three highest peaks in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scarfell Pike) and Wales (Snowdon) within 24 hours. The distance between each peak is considerable and this is included, along with any fuel stops, within the time limit. Our take on this challenge is to complete all three peaks within 24 hours whilst using an electric vehicle to transport us from peak to peak. Our car of choice is the Tesla Model S. It’s 100% electric, which unlike a hybrid means that if we run out of juice we can’t rely on a petrol backup and it's Game Over.[lt]/span[gt] [/p] [lt]p class="p1"[gt][lt]span class="s1"[gt]This hasn’t been done before and whilst our oil burning counterparts may easily refuel from a well-established network of petrol stations, we will rely on a much newer grid of rapid charge points installed by Tesla, called SuperChargers. The SuperCharger can dish out electrons at a whopping 340mph and all for the princely price of nothing. That’s right, zero cost to add to our zero emissions. To top it off, our Model S comes equipped with the best-in-class driver assistance package, called AutoPilot. The feature allows the car to practically drive itself the whole way.[lt]/span[gt][/p] [lt]p class="p1"[gt][lt]span class="s1"[gt]It might seem that we have things a little too comfy, with our fancy free charging stations and our virtual chauffeurs, but we can assure you that the challenge is very real. Re-charging at a SuperCharger still takes longer than traditional methods and many teams using regular petrol cars often fail to complete the challenge within 24 hours. [lt]/span[gt]To make this work we will need to train extra hard to make sure we save time when climbing the mountains.[/p] [p]Whilst we take on this challenge we would like to dedicate our endeavours to Save the Children and the Multiple Sclerosis Society. We would be most grateful for any support in the way of promoting our event and donations no matter how small. Every pound will make a valuable difference to these worthy charities.[/p]
