My story

[p]Five years ago, I accidentally died. I quickly decided this was a bloody stupid thing to have done, but by this stage it had become quite difficult to do anything about it personally. Thankfully, some wonderful people were around to help me rectify the situation.[/p][p]Having realised I was having a heart attack, I had managed to get myself to hospital, where shortly after arriving I also suffered a cardiac arrest. It took 32 minutes to restart my heart, after which I was rushed to Hammersmith Hospital for emergency surgery.[/p][p]After I was placed in an induced coma to recover, it was also discovered that I had pneumonia. Every time the doctors tried to bring me out of the coma, my lungs filled with fluid and I started to drown. My family were told to prepare for the worst. You can see in this picture the array of machines it was taking to keep me alive:[/p][p][/p][p]Thanks to the care of the amazing team at Hammersmith I survived and was brought out of the coma after 3 weeks. However, now it appeared I may have suffered brain damage during the cardiac arrest. Convinced I was in hospital due to a brush with a London gangster, who had thrown me in the Thames after discovering I was having an affair with his wife, I spent the next week or so talking utter gibberish, being abusive to the very people who had saved my life and trying to escape from the hospital. I was placed under 24-hour guard in a private room. Once again my family feared the worst[/p][p]And then... something clicked back into place. Gradually I became myself again and began rehabilitation after a month in hospital. Just 3 months after arresting I was able to return to work. Since 2015, the Cardiac Care team at Hammersmith has continued to care for and support me to the extent that I now feel in better health than I have for more years than I care to imagine and able to take on a marathon, something that would have been previously unthinkable.[/p][p]This is my chance to give something back to Hammersmith Hospital and Imperial Health. With your help, I hope more people can be given the second chance I was. After 26 miles & 385 yards I might need a third![/p]
