My story

[p]This is an enormous challenge for me!  I am a good swimmer, but until I entered the event, I had never been on a road bike, and I'm nervous about completing the bike leg of the triathlon before the cut-off time.  I had never run more than 10k either![/p][p]As an added hurdle, at the start of 2013 I am being treated for depression.  This wasn't in the plan when I entered the event, so adds a bit of a wildcard to the challenge![/p][p]During 2013, I will be taking part in various events which I hope will prepare me to the point where I am able to complete it, some of which are challenges in their own right[/p][p]February: Wokingham half marathon (10k is longest race to date)[/p][p]March: Bicester Pool Sprint triathlon[/p][p]April: Shakespeare 100 (100k bike sportive)[/p][p]June: Blenheim Sprint triathlon[/p][p]July: Stowe Olympic Distance triathlon (first Olympic distance tri)[/p][p]September: Ironman 70.3 Zell am See (the big one!)[/p][p]The reason I am undertaking this challenge, is to continue my support for Mind, the mental health charity.  I started raising money for Mind in 2009, following the death of my dear friend Emily Riall in 2006.  Mental health difficulties have also touched my own life through recurrent battles with depression over the last ten years.  As I recover from another episode at the start of 2013, I am grateful for the work of Mind which gives me the confidence to speak out about mental health.  (And I hope that having this big goal of raising money and completing a half ironman will help me through my recovery!).[/p][p]Mind do excellent work promoting the issue of mental health throughout the UK, as well as providing support for people with mental health issues, such as their amazing infoline.[/p][p]I am hoping to raise £2000 this year, which will take the total of money that I have raised for Mind to over £10k![/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]
